- the color developer according to the first embodiment of the present invention is a color developer containing a compound represented by the following formula (1).
- the compound represented by the formula (1) may be referred to as "compound (1)”.
- a, A, and L are as follows. a is an integer chosen from 1 to 5 and A is an independently fluorogroup or perfluoroalkyl group, respectively. L is any functional group represented by the following formula (2).
- R is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. * Indicates the binding site with the sulfur atom in the formula (1).
- the color developer according to the first aspect of the present invention has a remarkable effect of being excellent in color development sensitivity and storage stability. It is presumed that the above-mentioned developer exerts such an excellent effect for the following reasons. That is, by introducing a fluoro group or a perfluoroalkyl group as a substituent to the sulfonylurea compound, the acidity and / or hydrogen bond donating ability of the NH moiety is improved, and the reaction with the leuco dye becomes easier. It is thought that this is because the color development sensitivity is improved, and at the same time, the storage stability is improved by stabilizing the color development state.
- the associativity and / or crystallinity is appropriately suppressed, so that the amorphous stability is effectively enhanced without excessively lowering the energy required for melting. This is considered to be because the storage stability of the color-developed state, which is a metastable state, is enhanced.
- the ease of mixing (compatibility) at the molecular level with leuco dyes and sensitizers is appropriately adjusted, resulting in high color development sensitivity and storage stability. Is considered to be compatible.
- a is an integer selected from 1 to 5, preferably 3 or less, more preferably 2 or less, and particularly preferably 1.
- the perfluoroalkyl group in A has 1 to 12 carbon atoms. The number of carbon atoms is preferably 6 or less, more preferably 4 or less, and particularly preferably 1 carbon number (trifluoromethyl group).
- Perfluoroalkyl groups with a large number of carbon atoms are too hydrophobic to disperse in water, and the large molecular weight makes it difficult for the molecules to move during melting. Compatibility with leuco dyes and sensitizers It is considered that the color-developing performance is deteriorated when the amount is reduced too much.
- A is independently a fluoro group or a perfluoroalkyl group, but when a is 2 or more, all A may be the same substituent or different, and all A are the same substituent. More preferably it is a group.
- a fluoro group or a trifluoromethyl group is preferable because it provides appropriate hydrophobicity and compatibility, and a trifluoromethyl group is particularly preferable because high color sensitivity can be easily realized due to high compatibility. ..
- the substitution position of the fluoro group or the perfluoro group in A is not particularly limited, but is preferably the o-position or the m-position because it suppresses crystallinity and gives appropriate amorphous stability.
- the m-position or the p-position is preferable because it is spatially separated from the adjacent NH site and does not inhibit the reactivity with the leuco dye.
- the m-position is particularly preferable because it is easy to achieve both moderate amorphousness and reactivity.
- a is 2 or more, it is preferable that at least one A is in the m-position.
- L is any one selected from any functional group represented by the above formula (2), that is, a functional group consisting of a phenyl group and a monosubstituted phenyl group.
- R is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and since thermal motion is suppressed and storage stability is easily improved, it is preferably a methyl group or an ethyl group, particularly a methyl group. Is preferable.
- the functional group represented by the above formula (2) is preferably a phenyl group, an o-tolyl group, an m-tolyl group or a p-tolyl group.
- a is 2 or less
- A is a fluoro group or a perfluoro group having 4 or less carbon atoms, and a fluoro group.
- the substitution position of the perfluoro group is the m-position or the p-position
- R is a methyl group or an ethyl group.
- the color developer according to the second aspect of the present invention includes one that satisfies at least one of the following conditions (i) to (iii).
- the image density is determined by using a heat-sensitive printer for a heat-sensitive recording material having a heat-sensitive recording layer containing a leuco dye and a color developer and not containing a sensitizer, and a support. It is a value obtained by measuring what was printed with an applied energy of 0.36 mJ / dot with a spectroscopic density / colorimeter (eXact) manufactured by X-Rite.
- the relative density ratio represents the ratio of the image density when a developer having a specific particle size D50 is used to the image density when a color developer having a reference particle size D50 is used.
- the particle size D50 of the developer is 4.0 ⁇ m when the image density is 1 when the particle size D50 of the developer is 0.5 ⁇ m. It is the ratio of the image density in the case of.
- the color developer satisfying the above (i) preferably has a relative concentration ratio of 4.0 / 0.5 of 0.87 or more, and a relative concentration ratio of 4.0 / 0.5 of 0.90 or more. Is more preferable. Further, the relative concentration ratio 5.0 / 0.5 is preferably 0.85 or more, and the relative concentration ratio 5.0 / 0.5 is more preferably 0.87 or more, and 0.90 or more. It is more preferable to have. Further, when the particle size D50 is 0.5 ⁇ m, the image density is more preferably 0.90 or more, further preferably 0.95 or more, and further preferably 1.00 or more.
- the color developer satisfying the above (ii) preferably has a relative concentration ratio of 3.0 / 0.5 of 0.90 or more, and a relative concentration ratio of 4.0 / 0.5 of 0.90 or more. Is more preferable. Further, the relative concentration ratio of 5.0 / 0.5 is preferably 0.85 or more, and the relative concentration ratio of 7.0 / 0.5 is more preferably 0.85 or more.
- the color developer satisfying the above (iii) preferably has a relative concentration ratio of 3.0 / 0.5 of 0.93 or more.
- a method for increasing the color development sensitivity of thermal paper a method is known in which a developer is made into fine particles by wet polishing to increase the surface area to increase the reaction point with the leuco dye during heat melting.
- a color developer is used with a particle size D50 of 2.0 ⁇ m or less, but on the other hand, there are some adverse effects such as spending a lot of utility cost and time for industrial wet polishing.
- the particle size D50 after wet polishing is 2.5 ⁇ m or more, the decrease in image density is small as compared with the color development sensitivity when D50 is 0.5 ⁇ m, that is, the particle size is small. It is possible to maintain high color development sensitivity even if it is large.
- the present invention exerts such an excellent effect for the following reasons. That is, since the color developer of this embodiment has both a low melting point and a small molecular weight as compared with a general color developer, even if the particle size D50 is large, it is immediately melted by heat and has color development sensitivity. Is thought to be able to keep high. Specifically, when the D50 is 0.5 ⁇ m or more, the image density is above a certain level to have high color development sensitivity, and further, when the relative density ratio is above a certain level, even if the particle size is large. High color development sensitivity can be maintained.
- the particle size D50 means the particle size when the cumulative distribution based on the volume is 50 vol%.
- the particle size D50 of the color developer of this embodiment is not particularly limited, but may be 0.1 ⁇ m or more, and may be 0.2 ⁇ m or more. More preferably, it is 0.5 ⁇ m or more, and even more preferably 2.5 ⁇ m or more, 3.0 ⁇ m or more, 4.0 ⁇ m or more, 5.0 ⁇ m or more. Further, it is preferably less than 10.0 ⁇ m, and more preferably less than 8.0 ⁇ m. When a developer having a large D50 is used, the compatibility between the developer and the dye becomes low in a state where heat energy is not applied, so that the color development of the background portion (white portion) can be suppressed.
- the melting point of the color developer of this embodiment is not particularly limited, but is preferably 120 ° C. or higher and lower than 150 ° C. It is more preferably 120 ° C. or higher and lower than 140 ° C., and further preferably 120 ° C. or higher and lower than 135 ° C.
- a developer having a melting point having a high melting point to some extent as in the above range is suitable because it is difficult for the white part to develop color in a heat resistance test of 60 ° C. or higher and a drying step of thermal paper, regardless of the presence or absence of a sensitizer.
- the color developer having a melting point having a low melting point to some extent is sufficiently melted by heat even if the particle size D50 is 2.5 ⁇ m or more, an image density similar to that when the D50 is 0.5 ⁇ m can be obtained. It is preferable because it is possible.
- the molecular weight of the color developer of this embodiment is not particularly limited, but is preferably less than 500. It is more preferably less than 450, still more preferably less than 400, still more preferably less than 380. When the molecular weight of the color developer is within the above range, sufficient color development sensitivity can be easily obtained when fine particles having D50 within the above range are used.
- the partial structure capable of reacting with color leuco dye either the phenol-type substructure and a non-phenolic substructure well, in particular as non-phenolic type substructure, sulfonylureas (-NHCONHSO 2 - ), urea (-NHCONH-), thiourea (-NHCSNH-), sulfonamide (-NHSO 2 -), urethane (-NHCOO-), amide (-CONH-), hydrazyl (-NHNH-) or carboxylic acid (- COOH).
- sulfonylurea (-NHCONHSO 2- ), urea (-NHCONH-), thiourea (-NHCSNH-), sulfonamide (-NHSO 2- ), urethane (-NHCOO).
- sulfonylurea (-NHCONHSO 2- ) is particularly preferable because it has excellent reactivity with leuco dyes.
- the color developer of this embodiment may be a color developer containing a phenol-type or non-phenol-type compound, but from the viewpoint of environmental load, a color-developing agent containing a non-phenol type compound is more preferable.
- the color developer according to the third embodiment of the present invention is a non-phenol type color developer having all the characteristics of the melting point, the molecular weight, and the particle size.
- the non-phenolic compound contained in the color developer according to the second and third embodiments of the present invention is preferably a compound represented by the following general formula (3).

- n is an integer selected from 0 to 5, preferably 3 or less, more preferably 2 or less, and particularly preferably 1.
- R' is an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms which does not have to be branched or branched, an alkenyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms which may be branched or not branched, and branched.
- an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and 1 to 3 carbon atoms are more preferable because the color development performance is considered to be deteriorated and the molecular weight becomes large and the color development sensitivity cannot be sufficiently exhibited.
- Each R' is independently one of the above substituents, but when n is 2 or more, all R's may be the same substituent or different, and all R's are More preferably, they are the same substituent.
