Definitions
- the present invention relates to an optical fiber drawing method and a drawing apparatus for drawing an optical fiber by heating and melting a glass preform for an optical fiber.
- the drawing of an optical fiber by a drawing furnace is performed by heating and melting an optical fiber glass preform (hereinafter referred to as a glass preform) with a heater or the like. Since the temperature in the drawing furnace is as high as 2000 ° C. or higher, carbon is usually used for a furnace core tube or the like surrounding a glass base material. This carbon is oxidized and consumed in a high-temperature oxygen-containing atmosphere. In order to prevent this, a rare gas such as argon gas or helium gas or nitrogen gas (hereinafter referred to as an inert gas) is fed into the drawing furnace.
- an inert gas a rare gas such as argon gas or helium gas or nitrogen gas
- the glass base material is usually tapered at the upper end and connected to a dummy rod (also referred to as a support rod) having a small diameter and suspended and supported in the core tube of the drawing furnace. It is difficult to seal the changing tapered portion and the connecting portion with the dummy rod, and it is difficult to keep the airtightness when this portion enters the drawing furnace. For this reason, an upper chamber is arranged above the drawing furnace in a form in which the core tube is extended upward, and the glass base material including the tapered portion and the connecting portion with the dummy rod is accommodated in the upper chamber. There is a method of sealing the outer peripheral surface of the dummy bar at the upper end of the chamber.
- Patent Document 1 there is an optical fiber drawing method in which an optical fiber is drawn while being sealed by a sealing mechanism at the top of the drawing furnace.
- the first sealing portion of the sealing mechanism seals the outer peripheral surface of the optical fiber glass preform, and after the vicinity of the tapered portion of the optical fiber glass preform begins to pass through the first sealing portion.
- the second seal portion is arranged above the first seal portion, and the second seal portion seals the outer periphery of the sleeve member fixed around the outer periphery of the dummy rod.
- Patent Document 1 has a sufficient sealing function and is a preferable technical form, but at the moment when the seal is switched from the first seal part to the second seal part, the gas in the drawing furnace is used. Since there was no escape, the drawing furnace pressure could change. Since the change in pressure causes a change in the airflow in the drawing furnace, there is a possibility that the wire diameter of the drawn optical fiber may vary.
- the present invention has been made in view of these circumstances, and an optical fiber drawing method and a drawing apparatus that suppress a pressure fluctuation in a drawing furnace by operating a gas vent hole when switching a seal.

- the first seal portion A second seal portion is disposed above, and immediately after the second seal portion is disposed, the inside and outside of the drawing furnace are electrically connected to suppress fluctuations in the furnace pressure, and further the glass mother When the material descends, the conduction is cut off.
- Another embodiment of the present invention is an optical fiber drawing device for drawing a glass preform for an optical fiber, one of which is connected to a dummy rod, the outer circumference of the dummy rod and the glass preform.
- a sleeve member that covers part of the sleeve member is provided, and the sleeve member is provided with a vent hole that allows the inside and outside of the drawing furnace to conduct.
- the drawing is performed by providing an optical fiber drawing method and a drawing device that suppresses pressure fluctuations in the drawing furnace so that the gas vent hole operates when the seal is switched. It is possible to suppress variations in the optical fiber wire diameter.
- an optical fiber glass preform having one end connected to a dummy rod is passed through an opening provided in a drawing furnace from the glass preform side, and the vicinity of the opening
- the glass base material is lowered, the conduction is cut off. .
- the ventilation for connecting the inside and the outside of the drawing furnace is conducted.
- the gas in the drawing furnace is released to suppress pressure fluctuations in the drawing furnace.
- a sleeve member that covers a part of the outer periphery of the dummy rod and the glass base material is provided, and the drawing furnace is provided with a vent hole provided in the sleeve member.
- the inside of the furnace is electrically connected to the outside, and the ventilation hole is blocked to block the conduction.
- the size of the vent hole it is possible to adjust the gas flow rate flowing out from the drawing furnace through the vent path to the outside. That is, it is possible to appropriately design the size, shape, position, and the like of the air vent so as to suppress the fluctuation of the pressure in the furnace while preventing the outside air from flowing into the drawing furnace.
- the sleeve member is fixed to the dummy rod, and the second seal portion is connected to the sleeve member by a ring-shaped member provided on the sleeve member. After the seal is switched to the second seal portion, the ring-shaped member slides on the outer peripheral surface of the sleeve member to seal the opening.
- the melting and drawing of the glass base material proceeds, descends, and after the seal is switched to the second seal portion, the inside and outside of the drawing furnace including the glass base material are continued. Can be cut off.

- the gas inside the drawing furnace is released by using the ventilation path that connects the inside and the outside of the drawing furnace. Suppresses pressure fluctuations in the drawing furnace. By suppressing the pressure fluctuation, it is possible to suppress a change in the air flow in the drawing furnace and to suppress the variation in the diameter of the drawn optical fiber.

Abstract
