Abstract
Description
そこで、例えば、光配線を用いた光通信モジュール及び光送受信装置が提案されている(例えば、特開2008-10837号公報)。ここでは、光配線として、石英ガラスファイバー、ポリマークラッドファイバー、プラスチックファイバーを使用することが記載されている。
しかし、このようなファイバーは、許容曲げ半径が大きいため、細かな配線ができず、小型の映像機器内又は映像機器間の狭い空間内に配線することが困難である。
また、高温環境下での着色を抑制することができ、さらに帯域及び伝送性能(つまり、損失低減)の一層の向上を図ることができるクロロスチレン系重合体をコア部に用いるGI型光ファイバーの製造方法を提供することを目的とする。
上記コア部が、クロロスチレンモノマーを55重量%以上含む重合体と、ドーパントとを含んでなり、
上記クラッド部が、メチルメタクリレートを35重量%以上含むモノマーの重合体を含んでなることを特徴とする。
前記クラッド部に含まれる重合体は、メチルメタクリレートと、スチレン、α-メチルスチレン、N-シクロヘキシルマレイミドよりなる群より選ばれた少なくとも1種を含むモノマーとを構成単位とする重合体を主たる構成成分としてなることが好ましい。
また、前記クラッド部に含まれる重合体は、メチルメタクリレート35~70重量%と、スチレン30~65重量%及びN-シクロヘキシルマレイミド0~15重量%を含むモノマーとを構成単位とする重合体を主たる構成成分としてなることが好ましい。
さらに、630~690nmの少なくともいずれか一つの波長における
NA=(n1 2-n2 2)1/2(式中、コア部中心部の屈折率:n1、クラッド部の屈折率:n2)で表される開口数が0.25以上であることが好ましい。
また、前記コア部中心部が、前記重合体100重量部と、ドーパント2~8重量部とを含んでなることが好ましい。
さらに、前記クロロスチレンモノマーが、100ppm以下のアニリン含量のモノマーであることが好ましい。
また、映像関連光リンクシステムに使用されることが好ましい。
クロロスチレンを含むモノマーをアニリン除去工程に付して、全モノマーの重量に対してアニリン濃度を100ppm以下にし、
得られたモノマーを重合して得られたクロロスチレン系重合体をコア部に用いて、該コア部及びコア部の外周に配置されたクラッド部からなるプラスチック光ファイバーを製造することを特徴とする。
これらのGI型光ファイバーの製造方法では、アニリン除去工程が、吸着分離による方法であることが好ましい。
溶存酸素除去工程が、超音波を与えながら減圧脱気する方法であるか、不活性ガスをバブリングする方法であることが好ましい。
従って、それを用いることにより、高速通信可能で、高品質かつ高性能のGI型光ファイバーを簡便かつ確実に製造することが可能となる。
また、光ファイバーの中心から半径方向に向って、一旦屈折率が曲線的又は段階的に低下した後、曲線的又は段階的に増加してもよい。この場合、コア部とクラッド部の最外層とでは、コア部の方が、屈折率がより高いことが好ましいが、クラッド部の最外層が、コア部よりも屈折率が高くなってもよい。
コア部は、ClStを、重合体を構成する全モノマーにおいて55重量%以上用いた重合体によって形成されていることが適しており、好ましくは60重量%以上、より好ましくは65重量%以上である。また、コア部は、ClStを全モノマーとする単一重合体であってもよいが、ClStが95重量%以下、さらに90重量%以下であることがより好ましい。特に、コア部におけるClStは、全モノマーにおいて55~100重量%、60~95重量%、65~90重量%で含有されることが適している。ClStを55重量%以上の割合で用いてコア部を形成することにより、透明性及び可撓性に富む光ファイバーを得ることができる。
本発明のClStは、スチレンのベンゼン環の水素の少なくとも一部が塩素に置換されたものであれば特に限定されず、上記ベンゼン環の1又は2個の水素が塩素に置換されたものが適している。特に、パラ位が塩素に置換されたパラクロロスチレンが耐熱性の観点で好ましい。
クラッド部は、MMAを、全モノマーにおいて35重量%以上用いた重合体によって形成することが適しており、40重量%以上が好ましい。また、クラッド部は、MMAを全モノマーとする単一重合体であってもよいが、全モノマーにおいて70重量%以下で用いた重合体によって形成されていることが適しており、60重量%以下であることが好ましい。特に、クラッド部におけるMMAは、全モノマーにおいて35~100重量%、35~70重量%、さらに40~60重量%で含有されることが適している。MMAを35重量%以上の割合で用いてクラッド部を形成する場合には、可撓性に優れ、映像機器内又は映像機器間の狭い空間内の配線に使用することができる。
α-MeStを用いる場合には、α-MeStは20重量%以下で含有されることが好ましい。
NC-HMIを用いる場合には、NC-HMIは35重量%以下で含有されることが適しており、15重量%以下で含有されることが好ましい。α-MeStを20重量%以下又はNC-HMIを35重量%以下の割合で用いてクラッド部を形成する場合には、クラッドのガラス転移温度を上げることができ、可撓性を維持しながら耐熱性に優れたファイバーとして使用することができる。
また、メチルメタクリレート(例えば、35~70重量%)と、スチレン(例えば、30~65重量%)及びN-シクロヘキシルマレイミド(例えば、0~15重量%)を含むモノマーとを構成単位とする重合体を主たる構成成分としてなることがより好ましい。
クラッド部には、ドーパントが含有されていてもよい。
なお、クラッド部内側の一部に、コア部から移行したドーパントが含まれることがあるが、上記n2はクラッド部の最も屈折率が低い部分の屈折率を指す。
この際の重合温度は、特に限定されず、例えば、80~150℃程度が適している。反応時間は、モノマーの量、種類、後述する重合開始剤、連鎖移動剤等の量、反応温度等に応じて適宜調整することができ、20~60時間程度が適している。
なお、これらの重合体は、そのまま連続的に、後述するコア部及び/又はクラッド部を成形する際に用いることができる。
クラッド部を構成する重合体は、上述したSt及び/又はα-MeSt及び/又はNC-HMI及びMMA以外に、他のモノマー成分を用いないことが好ましいが、得られる光ファイバーの特性を損なわない範囲で、さらに重合性モノマー等を含有していてもよい。
重合開始剤としては、通常のラジカル開始剤が挙げられる。
例えば、過酸化ベンゾイル、t-ブチルパーオキシ-2-エチルヘキサネート、ジ-t-ブチルパーオキシド、t-ブチルパーオキシイソプロピルカーボネート、n-ブチル4,4,ビス(t-ブチルパーオキシ)バラレートなどのパーオキサイド系化合物;2,2'-アゾビスイソブチロニトリル、2,2'-アゾビス(2-メチルブチロニトリル)、1,1'―アゾビス(シクロヘキサン-1-カルボニトリル)、2,2'-アゾビス(2-メチルプロパン)、2,2'-アゾビス(2-メチルブタン)、2,2'-アゾビス(2-メチルペンタン)、2,2'-アゾビス(2,3-ジメチルブタン)、2,2'-アゾビス(2-メチルヘキサン)、2,2'-アゾビス(2,4-ジメチルペンタン)、2,2'-アゾビス(2,3,3-トリメチルブタン)、2,2'-アゾビス(2,4,4-トリメチルペンタン)、3,3'-アゾビス(3-メチルペンタン)、3,3'-アゾビス(3-メチルヘキサン)、3,3'-アゾビス(3,4-ジメチルペンタン)、3,3'-アゾビス(3-エチルペンタン)、ジメチル-2,2'-アゾビス(2-メチルプロピオネート)、ジエチル-2,2'-アゾビス(2-メチルプロピオネート)、ジ-t-ブチル-2,2'-アゾビス(2-メチルプロピオネート)などのアゾ系化合物等が挙げられる。これらは、単独で用いてもよいし、2種類以上を併用してもよい。
重合開始剤は、全モノマーに対して0.01~2重量%程度で用いることが適している。
連鎖移動剤としては、特に限定されることなく、公知のものを用いることができる。例えば、アルキルメルカプタン類(n-ブチルメルカプタン、n-ペンチルメルカプタン、n-オクチルメルカプタン、n-ラウリルメルカプタン、t-ドデシルメルカプタン等)、チオフェノール類(チオフェノール、m-ブロモチオフェノール、p-ブロモチオフェノール、m-トルエンチオール、p-トルエンチオール等)等が挙げられる。なかでも、n-ブチルメルカプタン、n-オクチルメルカプタン、n-ラウリルメルカプタン、t-ドデシルメルカプタン等のアルキルメルカプタンが好適に用いられる。また、C-H結合の水素原子が重水素原子又はフッ素原子で置換された連鎖移動剤を用いてもよい。これらは、単独で用いてもよいし、2種類以上を併用してもよい。
各モノマーに対する連鎖移動剤の連鎖移動定数は、例えば、ポリマーハンドブック第3版(J.BRANDRUP及びE.H.IMMERGUT編、JOHN WILEY&SON発行)「高分子合成の実験法」(大津隆行、木下雅悦共著、化学同人、昭和47年刊)等を参考にして、実験によって求めることができる。よって、連鎖移動定数を考慮して、モノマーの種類等に応じて、適宜、その種類及び添加量を調整することが好ましい。例えば、全モノマーに対して0.1~4重量%程度が挙げられる。
酸化防止剤は、全モノマーの重量に対して、10ppm程度以上が適している。また、4000ppm程度以下が適しており、2500ppm以下が好ましく、1250ppm以下がより好ましい。この範囲とすることにより、酸化防止剤自体の着色の影響を受けることなく、散乱による伝送損失を抑制することができる。
光安定剤としては、例えば、ヒンダードアミン系の光安定剤等が挙げられる。
これらの配合物とモノマー又は重合体とを混合する方法は、例えば、ホットブレンド法、コールドブレンド法、溶液混合法等が挙げられる。
クロロスチレンを含むモノマーは、クロロスチレンのみを含むモノマーであってもよいが、上述したように、その他のモノマーを含むモノマー混合物であってもよい。つまり、その他のモノマーとしては、上述したように、例えば、メチルメタクリレート等が挙げられる。また、得られる光ファイバーの特性を損なわない範囲で、さらに上述したような、他の重合性モノマー等を含有していてもよい。
モノマー混合物とする場合には、コア部を形成するための重合体として、ClSt等を上述した範囲で混合することが適している。
本発明者らは、曲げ耐性、帯域又は伝送性能(つまり、損失低減)をより一層向上させることができるプラスチック光ファイバーに関して種々検討しており、そのために、コア部及びコア部の外周に配置されたクラッド部からなる光ファイバーであって、コア部が、クロロスチレンモノマーを55重量%以上含む重合体とドーパントとを含んでなり、クラッド部が、メチルメタクリレートを35重量%以上含むモノマーの重合体を含んでなる光ファイバーを開発している。
一方、このような光ファイバーは、高温環境にさらされると変質、着色し、長期の高温耐久性が著しく損なわれ、光ファイバーの伝送損失が増大することがあるという問題を新たに見出し、その原因について鋭意研究を行った。その結果、原料として用いるクロロスチレンモノマー中に不純物であるアニリン、溶存酸素等が存在すると重合中にアニリンの酸化変性物が生じる。そして、該重合体をコア部とする光ファイバーが高温環境にさらされると、この酸化変性物が黄色に着色し、近紫外領域から近赤外領域の吸収に影響を及ぼし、結果として、光ファイバーの伝送損失が悪化し得ることを新たに突き止めた。
得られた重合体を高温環境にさらすと、アニリンの酸化変性物質の着色により黄変し、上述した問題を招く。
吸着分離の具体的な方法は、例えば、シリカゲル、ゼオライト、活性炭、イオン交換/キレート樹脂等の吸着材を充填したカラムを用いる吸着分離、高分子膜を用いる吸着分離、多孔質構造の架橋高分子等の合成吸着材による吸着分離、無機多孔体による吸着分離、珪藻土、アパタイト、活性白土等を用いた方法が挙げられる。
なお、これらアニリン除去工程は、重合体を製造するために用いる全モノマーに対して行うことが適しているが、上述したように、クロロスチレンに含有される不純物としてのアニリンを除去する目的で行うため、必ずしも重合体を製造するために用いる全モノマーに対して行わなくてもよく、クロロスチレンにのみ行い、アニリン除去したクロロスチレンと、任意に他の重合性モノマーとを用いてクロロスチレン系重合体を製造してもよい。
溶存酸素を除去する方法としては、特に限定されるものではなく、公知の方法を用いることができる。例えば、不活性ガスでバブリングする方法、超音波振動を与えながら減圧脱気する方法、凍結脱気を行う方法、脱気膜を透す方法、市販の脱ガスモジュールに通す方法、還元銅及び活性化アルミナのカラムを通す方法等が挙げられる。特に、超音波振動を与えながら減圧脱気する方法、不活性ガスでバブリングする方法が簡便であるため好ましい。
具体的には、モノマー又はモノマー混合物が入った減圧可能な容器を、水を満たした超音波振動槽に浸漬し、超音波を与えながら真空脱気する方法が挙げられる。この際、例えば、超音波は、15~200kHz程度が挙げられる。また、脱気時間は、数十秒~数時間程度が適しており、1~60分間程度が好ましい。
不活性ガスとしては、窒素ガス、アルゴンガス及びヘリウムガス等の不活性ガス類が利用できる。バブリングは、例えば、全モノマーの容積(又は重量)と同程度~20倍程度の不活性ガスを、数十秒~1時間程度かけて行うことが適している。
なお、溶存酸素除去工程は、重合体を製造するために用いる全モノマーに対して行うことが適している。
クロロスチレン含有モノマーの重合方法は、上述したように、当該分野で公知の方法を利用することができる。
重合時の重合容器の回転速度は、500~3000rpm程度が例示される。
通常、モノマーをフィルターにより濾過して、モノマー中に含まれる塵埃を除去してから、重合容器内に導入することが好ましい。
つまり、コア部及びクラッド部を構成する重合体等を、それぞれ加熱溶融させ、個々の流路から多層ダイ及び多層用紡糸ノズルへ注入する。このダイ及びノズルでコア部を押出成形すると同時に、その外周に1層又は2層以上の同心円状のクラッド部を押出し、溶着一体化させることでファイバー又はプリフォームを形成することができる。
例えば、光ファイバーにおいてGI型の屈折率分布をつけるには、例えば、WO93/08488号に記載されたように、モノマー組成比を一定にして、ドーパントを加えて、重合体の界面でモノマーを塊状重合させ、その反応によってドーパントの濃度分布を付与する界面ゲル重合又はその界面ゲル重合の反応機構を回転重合法で行う回転ゲル重合法;並びに屈折率の異なるモノマー及びドーパント仕込み組成比率を漸進的に変化させ、つまり、前層の重合率を制御(重合率を低く)し、より高屈折率になる次層を重合し、クラッド部との界面から中心部まで、屈折率分布が漸進的に増加するように、回転重合を行うなどの方法などが例示される。
また、2台以上の溶融押出機と2層以上の多層ダイ及び多層用紡糸ノズルを用いて、コア部及びクラッド部を形成した後、引続いて設けられた熱処理ゾーンでドーパントを周辺部又は中心部に向かって拡散させ、ドーパントの濃度分布を付与する溶融押出ドーパント拡散法;2台以上の溶融押出機にそれぞれドーパント量を変えた重合体等を導入して、多層構造でコア部及び/又はクラッド部を押出成形する方法などが例示される。
また、任意の段階で、熱処理を行ってもよい。この熱処理によって、ドーパントを光ファイバー又はプリフォームの周辺部又は中心部に向かって拡散させることができる。この際の条件(例えば、温度、時間、圧力、雰囲気組成等)は、任意に調節することが好ましい。
繊維としては、例えば、アラミド繊維、ポリエステル繊維、ポリアミド繊維が挙げられる。
金属線としては、ステンレス線、亜鉛合金線、銅線などが挙げられる。
また、光ファイバーを用いたケーブルは、端部に接続用光プラグを用いてジャック部に確実に固定することが好ましい。プラグ及びジャックにより構成されるコネクタとしては、PN型、SMA型、SMI型、F05型、MU型、FC型、SC型などの市販の各種コネクタを利用することが可能である。また、光ファイバーを用いたケーブルの端部に接続用プラグは用いず、メディアコンバーター等の接続機器側にOptoLock(商品名、Firecomms社製)等のプラグレスコネクタを取り付け、切り放したケーブルを差し込んで接続することも可能である。
光源の波長は特に限定されないが、実用性の観点から可視光又は近赤外光を用いることができる。さらに、安全性の観点から可視光が好ましい。
以下、本発明のGI型光ファイバー及びその製造方法の実施例を詳細に説明するが、本発明は下記の例に限定されるものではない。
溶融押出ドーパント拡散法によって、ファイバーを作製するために、図1に示す溶融押出ドーパント拡散装置10を用いた。
図1の溶融押出ドーパント拡散装置10は、コア部及びクラッド部用の2層金型1の一方側に、コア部材押出機2及びクラッド部材押出機3が連結されている。2層金型1の他方側には、ドーパント拡散管4が備えられており、その下流にロール5を介して、テイクアップロール6が配置されている。
溶融押出ドーパント拡散法を利用して、光ファイバーを作製した。
パラクロロスチレン(以下、「pClSt」と記すことがある)とMMAとを蒸留、濾過し、ドーパントとしてリン酸トリフェニル(以下、「TPP」と記すことがある)を重量比で90対10対6.4の割合で混合した。さらに、全重量中の濃度がそれぞれ0.1重量%及び1重量%となるように、重合開始剤としてジt-ブチルパーオキサイド及び連鎖移動剤としてn-ラウリルメルカプタンを添加した。これを重合容器に導入して、重合容器の温度を130℃に維持しながら、40時間かけて、モノマーを重合させて、コア部材ロッド(外径30mm)を作製した。
得られた構造物をドーパント拡散管4に導入して、200℃でドーパントを拡散させることにより、コア部材に含まれているドーパントが、コア部領域からクラッド部領域に半径方向へ拡散し、屈折率分布を形成した。ここで、得られた構造物は、ドーパント拡散管4の導入部4A、中央部4B及び導出部4Cと進むにつれて、図2のA~Cにそれぞれ示したようなドーパント分布に変化した。
得られた直径300μmのGI型プラスチック光ファイバー7を、ロール5を介してテイクアップロール6に巻取った。
NA測定方法:ファーフィールドパターン測定器を用いて665nmでのNAを測定した。
コア部中心部のドーパント濃度の測定方法:厚み10μm程度にスライスした光ファイバー断面(軸と垂直方向)試料のコア部中心部のIRスペクトルを、スポット径10μmの顕微IR装置を用いて透過法により測定した。予めIR吸光度比から作成した検量線を用いてドーパント濃度を決定した。
コア部中心部のドーパント濃度を含むコア部材料のガラス転移点(Tg):分析されたドーパント濃度となるように、pClSt、MMA及びドーパントを混合し、コア部材料の重合と同一条件で重合することにより重合物を作製し、そのTgを窒素雰囲気下、昇温速度10℃/minでのDSC法により測定した。
クラッド部材料のガラス転移点(Tg):クラッド材料となるバルク重合物を試料とし、上記同様にDSC法により測定した。
帯域測定:20mのファイバーについて、コア径50μmの石英マルチモードファイバーによる限定モード励振で650nmでの伝送帯域を測定した。
曲げ損失測定:自然に静置した状態に対する、曲げ半径10mmで180°曲げた状態での665nm光の損失増加を測定した。損失増加の測定は、JIS 6823に準拠した。
巻き付け試験:直径10mmのロッドに光ファイバーを5回巻き付けた後、解除後の損失増加(巻き付け前に対する解除後の損失増加)を測定した(表1中、「破断」は解除後全く測定光が透過しなかったことを表す。)
これらの結果を表1に示す。
表1に示すように、コア部及びクラッド部の成分の割合を変化させる以外(特に、実施例11~14及び比較例4ではクラッド部材料に3元共重合体を採用)は、実施例1と同様に光ファイバーを作製し、評価した。
これらの結果を表1に示す。
ドーパントをジベンゾチオフェン(以下、「DBT」と記すことがある)に変更したこと以外は実施例1と同様に光ファイバーを作製し、評価した。
これらの結果を表1に示す。
ドーパントを4,4'-ジクロロジフェニルスルホン(以下、「2ClDPS」と記すことがある)に変更したこと以外は実施例1と同様に光ファイバーを作製し、評価した。
これらの結果を表1に示す。
(クロロスチレン系重合体の製造:アニリン除去)
ClSt(北興化学製)とMMAとをそれぞれ蒸留し、重量比で90対10となる割合でモノマー混合液を調製する。この混合液500mlを、ゆっくりとシリカゲル250gが充填されたカラム(例えば、Inhibitor removers(アルドリッチ製))の上部から供給し、下部からアニリンが除去されたモノマー混合液を得る。
アニリン量:モノマー混合液中のアニリン濃度の分析を、GC/MS分析装置(GC 2010/GCMS-QP 2010(島津製作所製))を用いて行った。内部標準由来のピークとアニリン由来のピークとの面積比率に基づいて濃度を求めた。
その結果を表2に示す。
これらを重合容器に導入し、重合容器の温度を130℃に維持しながら、40時間かけて、モノマーを重合して、コア部材ロッド(外径30mm)を作製した。
クラッド部材ロッドを製造するために、StとMMAとを蒸留、濾過し、重量比で50対50の割合で混合した。全重量中の濃度がそれぞれ0.5重量%及び1重量%となるように重合開始剤としてジt-ブチルパーオキサイド及び連鎖移動剤としてn-ラウリルメルカプタンを添加した。これを重合容器に導入し、重合容器の温度を130℃に維持しながら、40時間かけて、モノマーを重合させて、クラッド部材ロッド(外径30mm)を得た。
得られた構造物をドーパント拡散管4に導入して、200℃でドーパントを拡散させることにより、コア部材に含まれているドーパントが、コア部領域からクラッド部領域に半径方向へ拡散し、屈折率分布を形成した。ここで、得られた構造物は、ドーパント拡散管4の導入部4A、中央部4B及び導出部4Cと進むにつれて、図2のA~Cにそれぞれ示したようなドーパント分布に変化する。
得られた直径300μmのGI型光ファイバー7を、ロール5を介してテイクアップロール6に巻取った。
損失測定:作製したファイバーについて、10m挿入損失法を用いて780nmでの伝送損失(単位:dB/km)を測定した。その後、70℃に設定した循環式乾燥機内に3000時間静置した後、再度損失値(単位:dB/km)を測定した。
黄変度合の評価:押出成形前のロッドを厚み1cmに切り出し、表面を研磨した。その後、85℃3000時間にて静置した前後の400nmでの光透過率を、UV-Vis分光光度計(島津製作所)を用いて測定した。
これらの結果を表2に示す。
(クロロスチレン系重合体の製造:溶存酸素除去)
ClStとMMAとを蒸留、濾過し、ドーパントとしてTPPを重量比で90対10対6.4となる割合で混合した。さらに、全重量中の濃度がそれぞれ0.1重量%及び1重量%となるように、重合開始剤としてジt-ブチルパーオキサイド及び連鎖移動剤としてn-ラウリルメルカプタンを添加した。
これを、ノズル付きの耐圧の密封容器に投入し、容器ごと水を満たした超音波浴につけ、40kHzの超音波を与えながら、3分間、真空ポンプにより減圧脱気した。
その後、窒素ガスを満たし、容器内を大気圧に戻した。
得られたモノマー混合液について、アニリン量を実施例15と同様に測定した。その結果を表2に示す。
これらを重合容器に導入し、重合容器の温度を130℃に維持しながら、40時間かけて、モノマーを重合して、コア部材ロッド(外径30mm)を作製した。
その後、実施例15と同様に、溶融押出ドーパント拡散法により、ファイバーを作製した。
(クロロスチレン系重合体の製造:溶存酸素除去)
ClStとMMAとを蒸留、濾過し、ドーパントとしてTPPを重量比で90対10対6.4となる割合で混合した。さらに、全重量中の濃度がそれぞれ0.1重量%及び1重量%となるように、重合開始剤としてジt-ブチルパーオキサイド及び連鎖移動剤としてn-ラウリルメルカプタンを添加した。
この混合液を氷冷し、窒素ガスを200cc/分の流量で10分間吹き込んだ。
得られたモノマー混合液について、アニリン量を、実施例15と同様に測定した。その結果を表2に示す。
これらを重合容器に導入し、重合容器の温度を130℃に維持しながら、40時間かけて、モノマーを重合して、コア部材ロッド(外径30mm)を作製した。
その後、実施例15と同様に、溶融押出ドーパント拡散法により、ファイバーを作製した。
(クロロスチレン系重合体の製造:アニリン及び溶存酸素除去)
ClStとMMAとを蒸留し、それらのモノマー混合液をシリカゲルカラムに通して、実施例15と同様にアニリンを除去した。
その後、ドーパントとしてTPPを重量比で90対10対6.4となる割合で混合した。これをろ過し、全重量中の濃度がそれぞれ0.1重量%及び1重量%となるように、重合開始剤としてジt-ブチルパーオキサイド及び連鎖移動剤としてn-ラウリルメルカプタンを添加した。
これを、ノズル付きの耐圧の密封容器に投入し、容器ごと水を満たした超音波浴につけ、40kHzの超音波を与えながら、3分間、真空ポンプにより減圧脱気した。
その後、窒素ガスを満たし、容器内を大気圧に戻した。
得られたモノマー混合液について、アニリン量を実施例15と同様に測定した。その結果を表2に示す。
これらを重合容器に導入し、重合容器の温度を130℃に維持しながら、40時間かけて、モノマーを重合して、コア部材ロッド(外径30mm)を作製した。
その後、実施例15と同様に、溶融押出ドーパント拡散法により、ファイバーを作製した。
このように、デジタル信号を伝える及び/又は光量を送るための配線として、オーディオ用途、工場内通信用途、自動車内通信用途(ナビゲーションシステム、道路交通マネジメントシステム、自動料金収受システム等)、家庭内通信用途、さらに装飾又は照明用途(サイン、看板、建物照明、プール照明、光ファイバー装飾品、美術館照明、ファイバースクリーン等)、映像用途、光学検査又はセンサー等の工業用途、医療用途等において使用することができる。

Claims (13)
- コア部及び該コア部の外周に配置されたクラッド部からなるGI型光ファイバーであって、
上記コア部が、クロロスチレンモノマーを55重量%以上含む重合体と、ドーパントとを含んでなり、
上記クラッド部が、メチルメタクリレートを35重量%以上含むモノマーの重合体を含んでなることを特徴とするGI型光ファイバー。 - 前記コア部に含まれる重合体は、クロロスチレン55~100重量%と、メチルメタクリレート0~45重量%とを含むモノマーを構成単位とする重合体を主たる構成成分とし、
前記クラッド部に含まれる重合体は、メチルメタクリレートと、スチレン、α-メチルスチレン、N-シクロヘキシルマレイミドよりなる群より選ばれた少なくとも1種を含むモノマーとを構成単位とする重合体を主たる構成成分としてなる請求項1記載のGI型光ファイバー。 - 前記クラッド部に含まれる重合体は、メチルメタクリレート35~70重量%と、スチレン30~65重量%及びN-シクロヘキシルマレイミド0~15重量%を含むモノマーとを構成単位とする重合体を主たる構成成分としてなる請求項1又は2に記載のGI型光ファイバー。
- 630~690nmの少なくともいずれか一つの波長における
NA=(n1 2-n2 2)1/2(式中、コア部中心部の屈折率:n1、クラッド部の屈折率:n2)で表される開口数が0.25以上である請求項1~3のいずれか1項に記載のGI型光ファイバー。 - 前記コア部中心部が、前記重合体100重量部と、ドーパント2~8重量部とを含んでなる請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載のGI型光ファイバー。
- 前記クロロスチレンモノマーが、100ppm以下のアニリン含量のモノマーである請求項1~5のいずれか1項に記載のGI型光ファイバー。
- 映像関連光リンクシステムに使用される請求項1~6のいずれか1項に記載のGI型光ファイバー。
- クロロスチレンを含むモノマーをアニリン除去工程に付して、全モノマーの重量に対してアニリン濃度を100ppm以下にし、
得られたモノマーを重合して得られたクロロスチレン系重合体をコア部に用いて、該コア部及びコア部の外周に配置されたクラッド部からなるプラスチック光ファイバーを製造することを特徴とするGI型光ファイバーの製造方法。 - クロロスチレンを含むモノマーからアニリンを除去する工程及び/又は溶存酸素を除去する工程に付して得られたクロロスチレン系重合体をコア部に用いて、該コア部及びコア部の外周に配置されたクラッド部からなるプラスチック光ファイバーを製造することを特徴とするGI型光ファイバーの製造方法。
- アニリン除去工程が、吸着分離による方法である請求項8又は9に記載のGI型光ファイバーの製造方法。
- 溶存酸素除去工程が、超音波を与えながら減圧脱気する方法である請求項9に記載のGI型光ファイバーの製造方法。
- 溶存酸素除去工程が、不活性ガスをバブリングする方法である請求項9に記載のGI型光ファイバーの製造方法。
- 全モノマーの重量に対してアニリン含量が100ppm以下のモノマーを重合して得られたクロロスチレン系重合体をコア部に用いて、該コア部及びコア部の外周に配置されたクラッド部からなるプラスチック光ファイバーを製造することを特徴とするGI型光ファイバーの製造方法。
