- the present invention relates to an electromagnetic switching device, in particular a contactor, with a lower part, an arc chamber which can be removed from the lower part, a contact bridge support and a spring-loaded blocking element, the contact bridge support being held in the lower part, projecting into the arc chamber and being displaceable in an actuation direction, wherein the contact bridge support can be locked by means of the locking element when the arc chamber is removed, the locking element being held in the lower part and being designed as a lever which can be pivoted about a pivot axis.

- the contact bridge carrier 4 When the arc chamber 2 is placed on the lower part 1, the contact bridge carrier 4 is forcibly and automatically unlocked. As indicated schematically in FIG. 2 by a finger 14, the blocking element 5 is also manually accessible and manually operable when the arc chamber 2 is removed. It is therefore possible to unlock the contact bridge support 4 with the arc chamber 2 removed and then to test the contactor for proper function. Because of the run-up slope 8, when the contact bridge carrier 4 is returned to the switched-off position of the contactor, it cannot happen that the contact bridge carrier 4 hooks with the blocking element 5 before reaching the exhibition.
- the test with the arc chamber 2 removed is particularly simple if the contactor has only a single blocking element 5, that is to say no further blocking element for locking the contact bridge carrier 4.
