DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,457, dated December 18, 1883.

Be it known that I, II. CLAY Bascon, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for Heating-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying cut, print, or engraving ot' a stove having said new design.

My design embraces a stove which in horizontal section has the form of an oblong rectangle; and it consists'ot' four principal seetions,viz: the legs, the base-plate, the {ircbox, and the top plate, together with other minor sections, as is hereinafter described.

The base-plate A consists, substantially, of a fiat, generally oblong plate, having a plain upper surface, and having around its edge a flange, a, which extends downward and outward, and has a plain outer surface. The corners of said plate A are rounded, and about onehalf of its length is somewhat reduced in width, all substantially as shown in the annexed drawing. At each rear corner ot' the plate A, and at the rear end of its widest front portion, upon each side, is a leg, B, which has a wide upper portion that rapidly decreases in width from its upper end to a point below it-s longitudinal center, and from there to its lower end or foot, b, has inward, downward, and outward curving edges, so as to produce between said upper portion and foot a neck, b'. Upon the outer surface of the upper part of said leg is an ornamcnted face, b,which has two angles, and has its side edges beveled ofi and its upper edge out away, so as to give to the-saine a notched appearance, all substantially as shown in the annexed cut.

The iire-box section C has in horizontal section substantially an oblongl form. Upon cach side ot' said section is a panel, c, which is sunk below the corners c and lower edge, c, and is provided with a central figure, c, composed of ineised or raised lines, which inclose a word or words. Vertically said panel has an outward swell from its lower edge, nearly to its top, and from such point cxtends in a. curve upward and outward. At the point where the convex and concave lines meet is a narrow ornamental band, c4, which extends horizontally between the corners c', while at the lower edge of said panel is a half-round bead, c5, that extends around the entire fire-box, except a portion of its front end, c". Said front end is provided with a door, c7, which conforms to the general out line of the same, and has an'outward swelling center, that is ornamented by incised or raised lilies, and within which ornament are inclosed letters or words. The edge of said door has a plain molding, c, and at its lower end is an outward and downward inclining register plate or damper, e, which may form part of or be separated from said door, all substantially as shown in the annexed print.

The top plate section consists of a substantially rectangular plate, D, having round corners and an outward and downward ex tended edge, d, at the upper corner of which is a groove, d', that extends around the entire plate. The upper face of said plate D from a point a short distance inward from each edge is raised, as shown, and wit-hin such raised portion d2 are pot-holes covered by lids, and a pipe-collar, all substantially as shown in the annexed drawing.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new isl. The design for a heating-stove, einbracing the sections A, I3, C, and D, substantially as shown.
