Description
D7463 0R D 180615 DESIGN.
0. w. MQOUTOHEN HEATING STOVE.
No. 18,616. Patented Sept. 18, 1888..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. MOCUTGIIEN', OF PEEKSKILL, NIWV YORK.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,616. dated September 18. 1888.
Application filed August 8, 1958. Serinl No. 282,283. Term of patent 3,, years.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, CnA RLES W. Mollu'roli- EN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peekskili, in the county of Westehester and State of New York, have invented and pro dnced anew and original Design fora Store, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, forming part thereof.
This photograph is a clear representation of my design, which consists of a cylinder, 1, beaded near the top and bottom, as at 15' and 16'. It rests upon an ash-box, 2, which is square at the top, its sides flaring outwardly to the bottom 3. The several offsets made by the flaring enlargements are ornamented with rows of vertical tinting, as at a a, the row a having a base line of scalloping, as at Z). A plain surface, 0, near the upper edge has also a line ofscnlloping, rl, as shown, at its base.
15 represents the door of the ash-box 2, and its lower part, e, is extended forward, so as to make the lowest part of the ash-box longer from the front to the rear than it is from side to side. The bottom 3, with a plain drooping edgef, with a concaved upper corner, g, is likewise extended forward, giving a hearth-space, h. The door 15 has a line of vertical flaring, i, at its base. The curved extension j has a scroll ornamentation, and above that is a register, 16, occupying most of the length of the door and having a continuation of the vertieally-flnted line a at its sides, as at k. The top of the door bears a line of scalloping, Z. Starting from the base of the fluted lineaand arching over the door isa band-like representation, m, projecting slightly beyond the top of the door when it is closed. A door-handle is shown at 4.
The door to the ash-box is indicated by 3'. An extension, 2', from the door has a projection sitting in a hole in the base 3. A small plate, 1, is secured to the base, and, resting upon the door-extension 2, keeps it in place when the door swings open.
The base is supported by legs 8, ornamented as shown.
The fire-door frame 9 has rosettes at the cornors, surronnded by square frames, the frames being united by straight lilies of molding, as shown. At the top the molding forms an arch, with a number-plate in the center, and ailords a namespace, 14. The projecting sides taper toward the door and are fluted, asshown. The hingelugs 13 project boldly at the sides. The door is formed with a double ovolo edge, and its ornamentation is made to correspond with that of the frame. \Vithiu the molded border a panel of mica, 12, is supported by a leafy scroll, 11, as shown.
The top is round, and itsplain drooping edge u is in keeping with that around the bottom. The vertical edge 0 is fluted tocorrcspond with similar ornamentation on the base. The demolike cover 5, surmounted by an urn, 6, containing a porcelain bowl, 7, is adapted to swing to one side and is not an integral part of the pins 5.
What Iclaim, and desire to soon re by Letters Patent, is-
1. The design for a heating-stove herein shown and described, consisting of the base, cylinder, door, and frame, and top, of the shapes and ornamentation set forth.
2. In a design for a heating-stove heroin shown and described, the base consisting of the ash-box and bottom, of the shape and ornamentation shown.
CHARLES W. MCCUTGHEN.
