DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,483, dated September 20, 1881. Application filed July 20, 1881. Term of patent 31: years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. NEIL, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuration of figures hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.
The stripe B contains the band 8, composed 1 of a series of parallel bars; also, the band m, containing a series of pointed'figures placed side by side. The stripe B also contains the band t, consisting of a series of small rectangles placed side by side, and connected by a fineline; also, the band j, consisting ofa series of slender arches, from the tops of which project again other similar arches, giving the effect of a portico supported by slender pillars. The stripe B also contains the figure z, a band 2 ornamented with a series of figures resembling clover-leaves.
The stripe A contains the group 0, composed of the group b, a section of rectangular lattice-work,formin g a sort of loop, over which 0 projects the leafy branch f, from which grow the rose-like flowers 0, having projecting from them, in turn, the leaves d.
The group D of the stripe A contains the figure p, composed of lattice-like bars, over 3 5 which stretches the figure h, composed of semicircular flowers, with oblong leaves surrounrilaing them, from which projects the branch bearing pointed leaves. From this figure II. also projects the figure n, a branch bearing a rose with a leafy branch extending from it; also, the figure g, consisting of foliage, from which, in turn, projects the figure l, composed of two rose-buds on slender stems in close proximity to the figure o, a spray of moss-like foliage, which extends over the figure e, a por- 5 tion of the lattice-work above mentioned.
The stripe a contains ornamentation composed of rectangular figures.

6. The design for carpets, consisting of the group D, containing figures h, k, p, n, g, l, o, and a, substantially as shown.
