Description

改良之光學增白組合物
本發明係關於以上漿機(size-press)塗覆於紙表面時提供優良光學增白作用之組合物。
高白度水準對於紙產品之終端用戶而言為重要參數。造紙工業之最重要原料為天然吸收藍光且因此泛黃而使紙外觀暗淡之纖維素、紙漿及木質素。在造紙工業中,光學增白劑藉由吸收最大波長為350-360nm之UV光且將其轉化為最大波長為440nm之可見藍光而用於補償藍光吸收。
在造紙中,光學增白劑可添加於紙機之濕部(wet end)或紙表面上,或兩點處。一般而言,藉由僅在濕部添加不可能達成較高品質紙所需之白度水準。
一種向紙表面添加光學增白劑之常見方法為將光學增白劑之水溶液連同上漿劑(通常為天然澱粉或酶促或化學改質之澱粉)一起以上漿機塗覆。使預形成之紙片穿過雙輥夾持點,輸入夾持點充滿上漿溶液。紙吸收一些溶液,剩餘部分移除於夾持點中。
除澱粉及光學增白劑之外,上漿溶液可含有設計成提供特定性質之其他化學物質。此等化學物質包括消泡劑、蠟乳液、染料、顏料及無機鹽。
為達成較高白度水準,已投入大量努力來開發新穎光學增白劑。參見例如日本公開專利(Kokai)62-106965、PCT申請案WO 98/42685、美國專利5,873,913及歐洲專利1,763,519。
GB 1 239 818揭示由三嗪基胺基芪(triazinylaminostilbene)所衍生之六磺化光學增白劑。實例1至6揭示其鈉鹽。鎂僅在六磺化光學增白劑之可能平衡離子之清單中提及,作為表面上漿組合物中之組份之澱粉亦僅在可能黏合劑之清單中提及。
仍需要達成紙之高白度水準之更有效方式。
已驚人地發現與鎂鹽組合於澱粉上漿組合物中之式(1)之光學增白劑當塗覆於紙表面時得到增強之增白作用。除非另有說明,否則在下文中份數意謂重量份。
本發明因此提供一種以上漿機使紙增白之方法,其特徵在於上漿組合物包含:
(a)至少一種式(1)之光學增白劑
其中R1  為氫或SO3 M,R2  為氫或SO3 M,R3  為氫、C1-4 烷基、C2-3 羥烷基、CH2 CO2 M、CH2 CH2 CONH2 或CH2 CH2 CN,R4  為C1-4 烷基、C2-3 羥烷基、CH2 CO2 M、CH(CO2 M)CH2 CO2 M或CH(CO2 M)CH2 CH2 CO2 M、苯甲基,或R3 及R4 與相鄰氮原子連在一起表示嗎啉環,且M 為氫、鹼金屬陽離子、銨、單甲基-二C2 -C3 羥烷基銨、二甲基-單C2 -C3 羥烷基銨、經C2 -C3 羥烷基單取代、二取代或三取代之銨,或該等化合物之混合物,
(b)鎂鹽;及
(c)黏合劑,其選自由天然澱粉、酶促改質澱粉及化學改質澱粉組成之群;
每份組份(a)包含0.1至15份之組份(b)。
較佳式(1)化合物為其中R3 表示氫、甲基、乙基、正丙基、異丙基、β-羥乙基、β-羥丙基、CH2 CO2 M、CH2 CH2 CONH2 或CH2 CH2 CN且R4 表示甲基、乙基、正丙基、異丙基、2-丁基、β-羥乙基、β-羥丙基、CH2 CO2 M、CH(CO2 M)CH2 CO2 M、CH(CO2 M)CH2 CH2 CO2 M或苯甲基之化合物。
式(2)及(3)之光學增白劑為式(1)之光學增白劑的特定實例,但本發明並不限於此兩個特定實例。
鎂鹽可為(例如)乙酸鎂、溴化鎂、氯化鎂、甲酸鎂、碘化鎂、硝酸鎂、硫酸鎂或硫代硫酸鎂。鎂鹽較佳為氯化鎂、硫酸鎂或硫代硫酸鎂。鎂鹽最佳為氯化鎂。
每份組份(a)較佳包含0.15至10份組份(b)。每份組份(a)最佳包含0.4至5份組份(b)。
以上漿機處理紙時,可使用含有0.2至30公克/公升、較佳1至15公克/公升光學增白劑之上漿組合物。以上漿組合物之總重量計,上漿組合物亦含有濃度較佳為2重量%至15重量%之黏合劑。pH值通常在5-9、較佳6-8範圍內。
黏合劑或漿料選自由天然澱粉、酶促改質澱粉及化學改質澱粉組成之群。改質澱粉較佳為氧化澱粉、羥乙基化澱粉或乙醯化澱粉。天然澱粉較佳為陰離子澱粉、陽離子澱粉或兩性澱粉。而澱粉來源可為任何來源,澱粉來源較佳為玉米、小麥、馬鈴薯、稻、木薯或西穀米。可包含一或多種第二黏合劑,較佳為聚乙烯醇或羧甲基纖維素。
本發明之其他標的為一種使紙光學增白之方法,其包含以下步驟:
a)將上漿組合物塗覆於紙,
b)將該經處理之紙乾燥。
較佳將消泡劑、蠟乳液、染料及/或顏料添加至上漿組合物中。
以下實例更詳細地說明本發明。除非另外指出,否則「%」及「份」意謂以重量計。
實例1
上漿組合物製法為在60℃下,將式(2)之光學增白劑以達成光學增白劑之最終濃度範圍為2.5g/l至12.5g/l之量添加至氯化鎂(最終濃度為8g/l)與陰離子性氧化之馬鈴薯澱粉(獲自AVEBE B.A.之Perfectamyl A4692)(最終濃度為50g/l)之經攪拌水溶液中。
讓上漿溶液冷卻,接著傾注於實驗室上漿機之移動軋輥之間且塗覆於商用75g/m2 AKD(烷基乙烯酮二聚物)經上漿、漂白之紙底材上。在平床乾燥器中將經處理之紙在70℃下乾燥5分鐘。乾燥之紙經過調整後,接著在校準之Elrepho分光光度計上量測CIE白度。
在氯化鎂不存在下(亦即僅存在光學增白劑之鈉鹽),及以等量氯化鈣置換氯化鎂之情況下重複實例。
結果概括於表1中,且清楚地顯示使用氯化鎂優於使用氯化鈣且優於僅使用光學增白劑之鈉鹽而達成更高白度水準的優勢。由其他二價第II族金屬離子之氯化物鹽(諸如氯化鈣)對光學增白劑之變白作用甚至具有負面影響的觀察結果進一步證實本發明之驚人性質。
實例2
上漿溶液製法為在60℃下,將式(3)之光學增白劑以達成光學增白劑之最終濃度範圍為2.0g/l至10.0g/l之量添加至氯化鎂(最終濃度為8g/l)與經陰離子性氧化之馬鈴薯澱粉(獲自AVEBE B.A.之Perfectamyl A4692)(最終濃度為50g/l)之經攪拌水溶液中來製備。
讓上漿溶液冷卻,接著傾注於實驗室上漿機之移動軋輥之間且塗覆於商用75g/m2 AKD(烷基乙烯酮二聚物)經上漿、漂白之紙底材上。在平床乾燥器中將經處理之紙在70℃下乾燥5分鐘。乾燥之紙經過調整,接著在校準之Elrepho分光光度計上量測CIE白度。
在氯化鎂不存在下及以等量氯化鈣置換氯化鎂之情況下重複實例。
結果概括於表2中,且清楚地顯示與僅有鈉鹽形式存在時之光學增白劑相比,使用氯化鎂具有達成更高白度水準之優勢。
實例3
上漿組合物製法為在60℃下,將式(3)之光學增白劑以達成光學增白劑之最終濃度範圍為0g/l至12.5g/l之量添加至氯化鎂(最終濃度為6.25g/l及12.5g/l)與經陰離子性氧化之玉米澱粉(最終濃度50g/l)(Penford澱粉260)之經攪拌水溶液中來製備。讓各上漿溶液冷卻,接著傾注於實驗室上漿機之移動軋輥之間且塗覆於商業75g/m2 AKD(烷基乙烯酮二聚物)經上漿、漂白之紙底材上。在平床乾燥器中將經處理之紙在70℃下乾燥5分鐘。
乾燥之紙經過調整,且接著在校準之Auto Elrepho分光光度計上量測CIE白度。結果展示於表3中。
實例4
上漿組合物製法為在60℃下,將式(3)之光學增白劑以達成光學增白劑之最終濃度範圍為0g/l至12.5g/l之量添加至六水合硫代硫酸鎂(最終濃度為10g/l及20g/l)與經陰離子性氧化之玉米澱粉(最終濃度50g/l)(Penford澱粉260)之經攪拌水溶液中來製備。讓上漿溶液冷卻,接著傾注於實驗室上漿機之移動軋輥之間且塗覆於商用75g/m2 AKD(烷基乙烯酮二聚物)經上漿、漂白之紙底材上。在平床乾燥器中將經處理之紙在70℃下乾燥5分鐘。
乾燥之紙經過調整,且接著在校準之Auto Elrepho分光光度計上量測CIE白度。結果展示於表3中。
結果清楚地顯示與光學增白劑僅以鈉鹽形式存在時相比、使用氯化鎂或硫代硫酸鎂達成更高白度水準之優勢。

Claims (10)

  1. 一種用於紙之上漿組合物,該組合物之特徵在於,該上漿組合物包含:(a)至少一種式(1)之光學增白劑 其中R1 為氫或SO3 M,R2 為氫或SO3 M,R3 為氫、C1-4 烷基、C2-3 羥烷基、CH2 CO2 M、CH2 CH2 CONH2 或CH2 CH2 CN,R4 為C1-4 烷基、C2-3 羥烷基、CH2 CO2 M、CH(CO2 M)CH2 CO2 M或CH(CO2 M)CH2 CH2 CO2 M、苯甲基,或R3 及R4 與相鄰氮原子連在一起表示嗎啉環,且M 為氫、鹼金屬陽離子、銨、單甲基-二C2 -C3 羥烷基銨、二甲基-單C2 -C3 羥烷基銨、經C2 -C3 羥 烷基單取代、二取代或三取代之銨,或該等化合物之混合物,(b)鎂鹽,及(c)黏合劑,其選自由天然澱粉、酶促改質澱粉及化學改質澱粉組成之群;每份組份(a)包含0.1至15份之組份(b)。
  2. 如請求項1之上漿組合物,其中R3 表示氫、甲基、乙基、正丙基、異丙基、β-羥乙基、β-羥丙基、CH2 CO2 M、CH2 CH2 CONH2 或CH2 CH2 CN且R4 表示甲基、乙基、正丙基、異丙基、2-丁基、β-羥乙基、β-羥丙基、CH2 CO2 M、CH(CO2 M)CH2 CO2 M、CH(CO2 M)CH2 CH2 CO2 M或苯甲基。
  3. 如請求項1或2之上漿組合物,其中每份組份(a)包含0.15至10份組份(b)。
  4. 如請求項1或2之上漿組合物,其中每份組份(a)包含0.4至5份組份(b)。
  5. 如請求項1或2之上漿組合物,其中組份(b)為乙酸鎂、溴化鎂、氯化鎂、甲酸鎂、碘化鎂、硝酸鎂、硫酸鎂或硫代硫酸鎂。

  8. 如請求項1或2之上漿組合物,其中以該上漿組合物之總重量計,該黏合劑之量為2重量%至15重量%。
  9. 一種使紙光學增白之方法,該方法包含以下步驟:a)將如請求項1至8中任一項之上漿組合物塗覆於該紙上,b)將該經處理之紙乾燥。
  10. 如請求項9之方法,其包含以下其他步驟:向該上漿組合物中添加消泡劑、蠟乳液、染料及/或顏料。
