Description
1277659 (1) 九、發明說明 【發明所屬之技術領域】 本發明係關於用以分配出汞之組合物及其製法。 本發明之組合物由於它們於空氣和低溫中的安定性及 於高溫釋出汞,所以特別適用於在螢光燈內部摻雜汞。 【先前技術】 B 如已知者,螢光燈之操作需要壓力爲數百百帕(hPa )的惰性氣體和數毫克汞蒸汽之混合物。以前,藉由使汞 直接滴入燈中或者在小玻璃瓶中(其之後於燈內開啓)的 方式汞以液體形式引至燈中。但是,因爲汞的毒性,最近 的國際法令已限定使用可與燈功能性相配合的最低可能元 素量;因爲液體摻入法無法在燈中提供確實且有再現性之 添加少量高至約一毫克的汞,所以此方法已不適用。 另一將汞引至燈中的方法是使用金屬汞合金。自這些 鲁材料釋出汞爲逐步方式並於相當低溫(如,介於100和300 °C之間,取決於與汞形成汞合金的金屬)開始。因爲製造 燈的操作中,在燈未密封之前,係於相當高溫進行,所以 會損失在燈中的汞且其會釋放至工作環境中;例如,燈之 密封通常於約500 °C加熱時藉壓縮其開放端的方式進行, 於此操作中,汞合金會釋放至外界,相對於初時所含的汞 ,其比率不容忽視。 申請人以前提出許多固體產物可克服前述問題。 美國專利案第3,65 7,5 89號揭示TixZryHgz化合物,其 (2) 1277659 加熱至約5 00 °C時未釋出汞,但加熱至約800-90(TC (所謂 的活化處理)會釋出汞;此類型的較佳化合物是Ti3Hg, 其以註冊名稱St 505銷售。相較於液態汞,此化合物的優 點在於其可被粉化並以小重量摻入,例如,在具已知汞線 性載量的金屬條上滾動此粉末並自此條狀物切下相當於所 欲汞重量的所欲長度。但已經觀察到,在活化處理期間內 自此材料釋出汞的狀況欠佳,介於總汞含量的約3 0和40% φ 之間;咸信其原因在於材料於燈之製法的最終操作期間內 改變,此期間內,化合物曝於具氧化力的氣體(空氣或在 熱密封處理期間內自燈本身的玻璃壁釋出的氣體)。因此 ,用於提供燈操作所須之選定量的汞,因應使用的汞量, Ti3Hg用量至少雙倍或甚至三倍,此情況與前述嚴格規定 背道而馳。 英國專利申請案GB-A-2,056,490揭示Ti-Cu-Hg組合物 ,其汞釋出性質優於根據專利案US3,65 7,5 89之化合物。 鲁特別地,這些化合物於空氣中安定高至約5 00 °C,加熱至 800-900°C時,它們釋出的汞量超過80%或甚至高至90%。 但這些材料的特徵在於某些塑化程度,此使得它們難硏磨 。而製造含有這些化合物的裝置和控制汞之均勻載入(於 不連續容器中,依照裝置,對條或線狀裝置而言爲線性的 )要求化合物粉化,這些硏磨困難事實上阻礙了這些化合 物的工業用途。 專利案 US5,520,560、US5,830,026 和 US5,876,205 揭示 化合物St 5 05與汞產率促進劑粉末(分別是銅一錫合金及 (3) 1277659 可能添加的少量其他過渡金屬;銅-矽合金;和銅-錫-'稀土合金)之組合;添加促進劑可使化合物St5 05之汞產 率提高至80-90%,甚至於在其氧化反應之後亦然,藉此解 決了單獨使用化合物St5 05須使用大量過量汞的問題。但 使用不同粉末之混合物於含有彼之裝置之製法也有一些問 題:首先,兩種材料的密度和流變性不同,因此會於載入 系統(如:儲槽)內部彼此分離,使得汞分配不均勻。此 • 外,已經發現到,在活化處理期間內,含有此粉末混合物 之裝置有時會使得促進劑粉末顆粒噴出;雖然不常發生此 現象且噴出量有限,但此爲燈的生產線的一個問題。 【發明內容】 本發明的目的是要提出一種無前述問題之用以分配出 汞之組合物,同時提出這些組合物之製法。 根據本發明,此和其他目的藉包含汞、鈦、銅及錫、 # 鉻和矽中之一或多者之組合物達成,其中元素根據下列重 量%存在: 一 鈦由1 0%至42% ; - 銅由 1 4 % 至 5 0 °/〇 ; - 選自錫、鉻和矽之一或多種元素由1 %至20% ; 一 汞由20%至50%。 本發明者發現到,前述組合物於高至約5 0 0 °C釋出的 汞實際上是〇,於至少800 °C活化的熱處理期間內之產率超 過8 0 %,且易碎並易製成所欲顆粒尺寸的粉末。較佳組合 (4) 1277659 物中之元素根據下列重量%存在: 一 鈦由14%至3 5% ; 一 銅由2 0 %至4 5 % ; 一 選自錫、鉻和矽之一或多種元素由2%至14% ; — 汞由30%至45%。 本發明之組合物是多相系統;如藉X-射線螢光微分析 證實者,這些組合物包括數種不同化合物,區分其多個相 φ 及得知確實化學式結果非常複雜。但以鈦-銅-錫-汞組 合物爲例,可鑑別化合物的大約組成以重量%表示如下: 一 鈦 1 4.5 士 0 · 3 % ; — 銅 42.6士0.6% ; 一 錫 2.9%士0·1ο/〇 ; 一 永 40.5 土 4%。 本發明之組合物易硏磨及隨後過篩得到所欲顆粒尺寸 部分之粉末;就本發明之應用,較佳粉末部分之尺寸小於 125微米。這些粉末可用以製造各種形狀之分配出汞之裝 置。一個可能的實施例示於圖1,裝置10,其爲金屬條11 形式,其至少一面上有本發明之粉末組合物單獨或與其他 材料(如:用以吸收燈中氣態雜質之吸氣材料)之混合物 的至少一個軌帶12澱積;如此技術已知者,也可以製造帶 有數個不同材料之軌帶的條狀物,例如,一個軌帶是分配 出汞的材料而一個軌帶是吸氣材料,此如專利案 US6,l〇7,73 7所揭示者。可使用本發明之組合物之用以分 配出汞之裝置之第二個可能的實施例示於圖2,裝置20是 -8- (5) 1277659 有汞組合物粉末22存在且開口位於頂部2丨的環狀容器。最 後,另一可能的實施例示於圖3,裝置(3 〇 )是內部含有 录組成物粉末(32)且具有單一細縫形開口(33)的線形 容器(3 1 )形式,活化處理期間內,汞蒸汽可便利地自細 縫散逸。除了已提到之於溫度低於500。(:無汞釋出及活化 期間內的總釋出率的優點以外,相關於所述之材料與促進 劑倂用,這些組合物提供產製前述裝置所須之使用單一類 φ 型粉末的優點,此明顯簡化產製步驟。 其第二個特點中,本發明係關於前述分配出汞之組合 物之製法。 鈦、銅及錫、鉻和矽中之一或多者之粉末與液態汞混 合,將此混合物置於適當的耐壓容器並將此容器加熱(如 ,置於爐中)至適當溫度(通常在約600-800 °C範圍內) 介於1和1 0小時之間;此系統冷卻至室溫之後,自容器萃 出未反應的混合物,所得的混合物經硏磨並過篩,回收具 • 所欲晶粒尺寸分率之粉末,藉此可簡單地製得此組合物。 但已經發現,如果汞以外的所欲元素先反應形成預合 金且此預合金粉末隨後與汞反應,可得到較佳結果(特別 是更均勻的組合物)。據此,本發明之方法的較佳實施例 包含下列步驟: 一 製備欽、銅及錫、鉻和砂中之一或多者之合金’ 其中元素之重量比相當於最終組合物所欲者; - 粉碎該合金; 一 該合金粉末與液態汞以合金與汞之重量比由約2 -9 - (6) 1277659 :1至1 : 1的方式混合; 一 在耐壓密封容器中,藉此得到的混合物於介 於約65 0和75 0 °C之間進行爲時1至10小時的熱處理。 適當時,此較佳方法隨後爲藉由在熱循環期間內抽氣 而移除過量汞的另一步驟,包含至少於約500 °C至少1分鐘 之處理。 方法的各個步驟容許一些變數,如下文中所述者。 | 第一個步驟含括製備含有最終組合物之除了汞以外的 組份之合金。此合金依最終組合物中之鈦、銅及錫、鉻和 矽中之一或多者之元素重量比製得。可使用片狀或粉末狀 的原料產製此合金。組份於最初就全部混在一起,或者可 以僅以銅和錫和/或鉻和/或矽製得預合金,繼而使此預 合金粉末與鈦粉末混合。可於任何類型的爐中熔解;但以 使用感應爐爲佳,因爲此可藉單一熔解步驟得到均勻形式 的所欲合金,而其他技巧須要更多個熔解步驟才能得到相 _同結果。 可藉任何已知的方法(如,夾具粉碎機)使合金變成 粉末。以此方式製得的粉末之後可過篩以選擇所欲的顆粒 尺寸部分;例如,用於方法的連續步驟,以使用顆粒尺寸 小於約45微米的合金粉末爲佳,這是因爲這些尺寸有助於 與汞反應之故。 下列步驟關於本發明之組合物之產製,其使先製得的 合金於高溫與汞反應,相較於所欲組合物,後者過量。就 此目的,兩種組份以機械方式以合金:汞之重量比介於2 -10- (7) 1277659 :1和1 : 1之間的方式於容器內混合;之後密封此容器, 使其耐壓;產製小量組合物時,其可爲石英玻璃瓶,或者 用於較大量時可爲壓熱鍋。使組份於介於約6 5 0和7 5 0 °c之 間的溫度反應1至小時;較佳反應條件是約700 °C介於3 和6小時之間。藉由冷卻(自然或強制),得到幾近燒結 的密實物體,但其易碎且容易硏磨;類似於其他類似的方 法,下文中將此物體稱爲”坯體”。 • 此坯體以於相當高溫被送至抽氣吸法爲佳,以移除過 量汞。此操作可施於此坯體上,或者坯體可先經硏磨並隨 後自粉末移除過量的汞;以於坯體上施以操作的第一個方 法爲佳,這是因爲此避免了最輕的粉末可能被移入真空幫 浦中而引發問題之故。汞移除操作可於任何可抽氣且可加 熱的槽(例如,用以製造組合物之相同的壓熱器)中施行 。汞移除之熱處理包含至少一個步驟,其中,坯體或粉末 維持於500 °C至少1分鐘。由室溫至500 °C的此加熱升溫可 # 連續施行且需時,如,1小時;或者可以採用包含第一次 升溫(自室溫至介於3 00和3 5 0 °C之間的溫度,於此溫度維 持1至20小時)和第二次升溫高至500 °C之熱循環(整個循 環於抽氣時進行)。冷卻之後,得到所欲組合物,若於坯 體上施行最後的操作,其爲密實物體形式,此情況中,密 實物體之後被施以硏磨步驟及回收有用的顆粒尺寸部分; 或者,若於粉末上施行最後的操作,則其已爲粉末形式; 也可以在圖1至3所示類型(或其他類型)之經修整的裝置 上實行此操作。 -11 - (8) 1277659 【實施方式】 以下列實例進一步描述本發明。 實例1 此實例係關於本發明之組合物之製備。 稱得24.3克鈦泡沫、70.9克銅粉和4.8克錫粉末。將此 # 三種金屬置於坩鍋中,之後於感應爐中於惰性環境下熔解 。硏磨製得的錠且粉末過篩,回收小於1 25微米的顆粒尺 寸部分。7.5克的此粉末以機械方式與7.5克液態汞混合, 混合物於氬環境下封於石英玻璃瓶中。將此玻璃瓶置於氣 密式密封的鋼容器中。之後將此容器插入爐中,以下列熱 循環加熱高至700°C : 一於3小時內自室溫升至500°C ;
