Abstract
Grafittelektroder for fremstilling av aluminium ved karbotermisk reduksjon av alumina blir enten neddykket i smeltebadet i lavtemperaturrommet eller de blir anordnet horisontalt i sideveggene til høytemperaturrommet. Elektrodene fremstilles med en blanding av kokspartikler som dekker hele partikkelstørrelsesområdet mellom 25 nm og 3 mm, idet det benyttes en intensiv mikser for effektiv fiikting av samtlige kokspartikler med bek. Elektrodene har en bøyestyrke på minst 20 N/mm^. Ved å bruke et fiillstendig område (kontinuum) av partikkelstørrelser og en intensiv mikser, bedres partiklenes geometriske pakking vesentlig. Derved øker materialtettheten og det oppnås således en høyere mekanisk styrke så vel som en bedret elektrisk ledningsevne, sammenlignet med konvensjonelle grafittelektroder.
