Description
Oppfinnelsen vedrører en bærbar datalagringsinnretning, og spesielt en bærbar datalagringsinnretning for en datamaskin .
Konvensjonelle datalagringsinnretninger faller generelt
i to kategorier. Den første kategori er elektroniske faststoffenheter slik som leselagre (ROM) og direkte lagre (RAM). Disse lagerenhetene er vanligvis anordnet inne i datamaskinen. De er ikke ment å bli fjernet eller å være bærbare slik at de kan benyttes på forskjellige datamaskiner, f.eks. for å muliggjøre overføring av data fra en datamaskin til en annen datamaskin.
Den annen type innretning er overflatebaserte datalagringsinnretninger hvor data typisk blir lagret på overflaten av en plate eller et bånd. Eksempler på over-flatelagringsinnretninger er magnetplater og CD ROM'er. Slike datalagringsinnretninger krever en mekanisk drivmekanisme installert i eller koblet til datamaskinen for å gjøre det mulig for datamaskinen å lese dataene på lagringsinnretningen. I tillegg er slike lagerenheter begrenset av overflate-arealet til lagringsinnretningen, og kombinasjonen av lagringsinnretningen og drivmekanismen for å lese data fra lagringsinnretningen, er vanligvis omfangsrik og/eller ømfintlig på grunn av de bevegelige deler som er nødvendige inne i drivmekanismen og/eller lagringsinnretningen.
I samsvar med foreliggende oppfinnelse er det tilveie-brakt en bærbar datalagringsinnretning som omfatter en koblingsanordning for tilkobling til en datamaskins seriebuss, en tilpasningsanordning koblet til koblingsanordningen, en lagerstyreanordning og en ikke-flyktig faststofflagerenhet; idet lagerstyreanordningen er koblet mellom tilpasningsanordningen og lagerenheten for å styre strømmen av data fra lagerenheten til koblingsanordningen.
En fordel ved oppfinnelsen er at ved å tilveiebringe en bærbar datalagringsinnretning som omfatter en koblingsanordning med en tilpasningsanordning, en lagerstyringsanordning og en ikke-flyktig faststofflagerenhet, blir det mulig å tilveiebringe en bærbar datalagringsinnretning som kan kobles til en datamaskin som har en seriebussport og som ikke innbefatter bevegelige deler eller krever en mekanisk drivmekanisme for å lese dataene fra datalagringsinnretningen.
Den ikke-flyktige faststofflagerenhet kan fortrinnsvis være en lese/skrive-lagerenhet, slik som en flash-lagerenhet. Når lagerenheten er en lese/skrive-lagerenhet, styrer lagerstyreanordningen fortrinnsvis strømmen av data til og fra lagerenheten.
Datalagringsinnretningen omfatter videre vanligvis en manuelt betjent bryter som er bevegelig mellom en første stilling hvor skriving av data til lagerenheten er mulig-gjort, og en annen stilling hvor skriving av data til lagerenheten blir forhindret.
Lagerstyreanordningen kan fortrinnsvis innbefatte et leselager som lagrer et program for å styre operasjonen til lagerstyreanordningen. Lagerstyreanordningen er fortrinnsvis en mikrostyreenhet.
Tilpasningsanordningen omfatter typisk en universell seriebuss-driver (USB) for å omforme data mellom et USB-format og et PC-format, og koblingsanordningen omfatter en USB-koblingsanordning.
Alternativt omfatter tilpasningsanordningen en driver for IEEE 1394 (Firewire) protokollen, og koblingsanordningen omfatter en Firewire-koblingsanordning.
Et eksempel på en datalagringsinnretning i samsvar med oppfinnelsen, vil nå bli beskrevet i forbindelse med de vedføyde tegninger, hvor: Fig. 1 er et blokkskjema over en bærbar datalagrings
innretning; Fig. 2 er et flyskjema som viser den innledende oppsetting av datalagringsinnretningen fra en programvare-leverandør; Fig. 3 er et flytskjema som viser en innledende oppsetning av datalagringsinnretningen av en sluttbruker; og Fig. 4 er et flytskjema som viser virkemåten til datalagringsinnretningen . Fig. 1 viser en datalagringsinnretning 10 som omfatter en USB-plugg 1 som er koblet til en USB-tilpasningsanordning 2. USB-tilpasningsanordningen 2 er koblet til en mikrostyreenhet 3 som er koblet til en flash-lagerenhet 4. Mikrostyreenheten 3 innbefatter et leselager (ROM) 5 som lagrer et program for å styre driften av mikrostyreenheten 3.
De operasjoner som utføres av mikrostyreenheten 3, innbefatter å sammenligne passord innført av en bruker med et tilsvarende passord som er lagret i flash-lagerenheten 4 for å bestemme om brukeren er autorisert for tilgang til inn-holdet av flash-lagerenheten 4. Det program som er lagret i ROM 5 styrer også datastrømmen til og fra flash-lagerenheten 4 og kan også detektere om den datamaskin som lagerenheten 1 er tilkoblet, har installert programvare som svarer til passord lagret i flash-lagerenheten 4. Mikrostyreenheten 3 kan automatisk hente passord fra den installerte programvare for å sammenligne med passord som er lagret i flash-lagerenheten for å verifisere at en bruker av datamaskinen er autorisert for tilgang til og kjøring av programvaren. I tillegg muliggjør også det program som er lagret i ROM 5 innføring av et passord i flash-lagerenheten av en program-vareleverandør, som svarer til det passord som befinner seg i programvaren som leveres til en bruker. Passordet kan typisk svare til programvarens serienummer.
Flash-lagerenheten 4 er typisk inndelt i et antall forskjellige seksjoner eller soner. Flash-lagerenheten er typisk inndelt i to soner, og hver sone har et unikt passord. Hvis datalagringsinnretningen 10 er forsynt med pakket programvare, kan programvarens serienummer settes inn i en sone som det passord som tillater en bruker å aksessere og bruke programvaren. Den annen sone, som vanligvis kan benyttes til lagring av en brukers data, kan ha et separat passord som fastsettes av brukeren. Passordene blir vanligvis lagret på et sikkert sted i flash-lagerenheten på en kryptert form. Krypteringen, dekrypteringen, datastrømstyringen og USB-protokollen blir alle styrt av mikrostyreenheten 3.
Mikrostyreenheten 3 innbefatter også et direkte lager (RAM) 6 som er midlertidig lagringsområde som gjør det mulig for mikrostyreenheten 3 å funksjonere. I tillegg er en manuell bryter 7 koblet mellom flash-lagerenheten 4 og mikrostyreenheten 3. Den manuelle bryter 7 er bevegelig mellom en første stilling hvor en bruker kan skrive data til flash-lagerenheten 4, og en annen stilling hvor data blir hindret fra å bli skrevet til flash-lagerenheten 4.
Innretningen 10 omfatter også en USB-sokkel 8 som er koblet direkte til USB-pluggen 1 og gjør det mulig for andre USB-innretninger å bli koblet til USB via innretningen 10. Hvis f.eks. en bruker ønsker å øke lagringsplassen, kan en USB-plugg 1 for en annen lagerenhet 10 kobles til USB-sokkelen 8. Fig. 2 er et flytskjema som viser oppsettingsprosedyren for anordningen 10 for en programvareleverandør når program-vareleverandøren har til hensikt å levere anordningen som en autentiseringsanordning for programvaren. Først blir pluggen 1 til innretningen 10 plugget inn i 20 til en USB-sokkel på en datamaskin. Etter at innretningen 10 er blitt plugget inn i USB-sokkelen på datamaskinen, blir det opprettet en kommunikasjon 21 mellom datamaskinen og innretningen 10. Programvareleverandøren har på forhånd installert installer-ingsprogramvare på datamaskinen som blir kjørt av operatøren. Fra den forhåndsinstallerte programvare velger operatøren installasjon 22 av passordoppsetting, og som reaksjon på dette ber den forhåndsinstallerte programvare operatøren om å innføre et passord eller et serienummer som svarer til den programvare som innretningen 10 skal forsynes med. Passordet eller serienummeret blir så kryptert 26 og lagret 27 i flash-lagerenheten 4. Fig. 3 er et flytskjema som viser den innledende oppsetting av et passord for sone 2 i flash-lagerenheten 4 av en sluttbruker. Innretningen 10 er typisk forsynt med driver-programvare som blir lastet inn av brukeren på datamaskinen før oppsetting av innretningen. For oppsetting av passordet for sone 2 plugger brukeren inn 2 0 innretningen 10 i en USB-port på datamaskinen, og kommunikasjon 21 blir opprettet mellom datamaskinen og innretningen 10. Brukeren kjører så driverprogrammet, og driverprogrammet går inn i en oppsett-ingsmodus 23 for passordinstallasjon for sone 2. Brukeren innfører 28 så et passord som brukeren ønsker å benytte for å hindre uautorisert tilgang til sone 2 i flash-lagerenheten 4. Det innførte passord blir så kryptert 29 og lagret 30 i flash-lagerenheten 4.
Etter at en sluttbruker har utført den innledende oppsettingsprosedyre for passord som er beskrevet ovenfor og vist på fig. 3, så vil datamaskinen, når en bruker plugger inn 20 innretningen 10 i en USB-port på en datamaskin, opprette en kommunikasjon 21 med innretningen 10 og kontrollerer 33 først et installasjonsstatus-flagg som er lagret i flash-minneenheten 4 (se fig. 4). Hvis statusflagget er "Y", mater innretningen 10 ut 34 et "OK"-flagg til datamaskinen. Mikrostyreenheten 3 instruerer så datamaskinen om å avgi en anmodning 35 til en bruker om å velge den sone vedkommende ønsker å få tilgang til. Hvis statusflagget er "N", mater innretningen ikke ut noe "OK"-flagg til datamaskinen, og går rett til trinn 35. Som reaksjon på anmod-ningen 35 om sonevalg, velger 36 brukeren enten sone 1 eller sone 2.
Hvis sone 1 blir valgt, antar innretningen 10 at brukeren ønsker å installere programvare på datamaskinen som er lagret i flash-lagerenheten 4, og anmoder 37 om det riktige passord for bekreftelse på at brukeren er autorisert til å installere programvaren. Mikrostyreenheten 3 mottar det passord som er innført av brukeren, henter passordet for sone 1 som er lagret i flash-lagerenheten 4, dekrypterer passordet for sone 1 og sammenligner det med det passord som er innført av brukeren for å autentisere 38 om brukeren er autorisert til å installere programvaren eller ikke. Hvis passordene ikke stemmer overens, oppfordrer datamaskinen innretningen 10 om å anmode 37 brukeren til å innføre passordet på nytt.
Hvis det passord som innføres av brukeren, stemmer overens med det passord som er lagret i flash-lagerenheten4, starter mikrostyreenheten 3 ved 39 programvareinstallasjonen fra flash-lagerenheten 4 til datamaskinen. For å installere programvare sender 40 datamaskinen en les/skriv-kommando i USB-format til mikrostyreenheten 3 for å finne data, idet mikrostyreenheten 3 henter de etterspurte data fra flash-lagerenheten 4 og sender 41 dataene til driveren 2. Driveren 2 omformer 42 dataene til PC-format og mater ut dataene til datamaskinen gjennom USB-pluggen 1. Mikrostyreenheten 3 kontrollerer 43 så om programvareinstallasjonen er fullstendig. Hvis operasjonen ikke er fullstendig, returneres operasjonen til trinn 40. Hvis installasjonen av programvaren er fullstendig, blir det statusflagg som er lagret i flash-lagerenheten 4 endret til "Y", og innretningen 10 kan så fjernes 45 fra USB-sokkelen på datamaskinen.
Hvis en bruker velger sone 2, sender mikrostyreenheten 3 en kommando til datamaskinen for å anmode 4 6 brukeren om å innføre passordet for sone 2. Når brukeren innfører passordet, sender datamaskinen passordet til mikrostyreenheten 3. Mikrostyreenheten 3 henter passordet for sone 2 fra flash-styreenheten 4, dekrypterer 47 passordet og sammenligner det med det passord som er innført av brukeren. Hvis et passord som er innført av brukeren, er ukorrekt, returnerer operasjonen til trinn 46, og datamaskinen anmoder 46 brukeren om passordet på nytt.
Hvis det passord som er innført av brukeren, er korrekt, har brukeren tilgang til sone 2 i flash-lagerenheten 4 for å lese data fra flash-lagerenheten 4 og til å skrive data til flash-lagerenheten 4. Data kan imidlertid bare skrives til flash-lagerenheten 4 hvis den manuelle bryter er i den stilling som tillater data å bli skrevet til flash-lagerenheten 4. For å lese eller skrive data fra eller til flash-lagerenheten 4, blir en les- eller skriv-kommando sendt 48 av datamaskinen i USB-format til mikrostyreenheten 3. Som reaksjon på les- eller skriv-kommandoen henter mikrostyreenheten 3 enten data fra flash-lagerenheten 4 og sender dem til driveren 2 for omforming 50 til PC-format, og så for utmating til datamaskinen, eller mottar data fra driveren for å skrive dem til flash-lagerenheten 4.
Mikrostyreenheten 3 bestemmer 51 så om lese- eller skrive-operasjonen er fullstendig. Hvis operasjonen ikke er fullstendig, returnerer den til trinn 48. Hvis operasjonen er fullstendig, avsluttes 52 operasjonen.
Innretningen 10 som er beskrevet ovenfor, er for tilkobling til en universell seriedatabuss (USB). Pluggen 1, tilpasningsanordningen 2 og sokkelen 8 kan imidlertid være for bruk med enhver passende dataseriebuss. F.eks. kan innretningen 10 modifiseres for bruk med IEEE 13 94 (Firewire)-protokollen ved å erstatte USB-pluggen 1, USB-tilpasningsanordningen 2 og sokkelen 8 med henholdsvis en plugg, en tilpasningsanordning og en sokkel som alle er kompatible med Firewire-protokollen.
En fordel ved innretningen 10 som er beskrevet ovenfor, er at den tilveiebringer en bærbar datalagringsinnretning for en datamaskin som ikke trenger en mekanisk drevet lese/skrive-anordning. I tillegg har innretningen 10 ingen bevegelige deler. Dette gjør at datalagringsinnretningen 10 kan være mer kompakt enn konvensjonelle bærbare datalagringsinnretninger.
Claims (8)
1. Bærbar datalagringsinnretning, karakterisert ved en koblingsanordning for tilkobling til en seriebuss på en datamaskin, en tilpasningsanordning koblet til koblingsanordningen, en lagerstyreanordning og en ikke-flyktig faststofflagerenhet; idet lagerstyreanordningen er koblet mellom tilpasningsanordningen og lagerenheten for å styre strømmen av data fra lagerenheten til koblingsanordningen.
2. Innretning ifølge krav 1,
karakterisert ved at den ikke-flyktige faststofflagerenhet er en lese/skrive-lagerenhet.
3. Innretning ifølge krav 2,
karakterisert ved at lese/skrive-lagerenheten er en flash-lagerenhet.
4. Innretning i henhold til krav 2 eller krav 3, karakterisert ved at lagerstyreanordningen styrer strømmen av data til og fra lagerenheten.
