Abstract

La presente invención incluye las composiciones de recubrimiento y los métodos para recubrir sustratos usando las composiciones de recubrimiento. En algunas modalidades de la invención, una composición de recubrimiento se prepara mediante un método que incluye las etapas de: a) preparar una emulsión de látex mediante un método que incluye mezclar un componente de monómero etilénicamente insaturado en un portador para formar una emulsión de monómero, y hacer reaccionar la emulsión de monómero con un iniciador para formar la emulsión de látex, b) preparar un copolímero de injerto de aceite con función de hidroxilo mediante un método que incluye hacer reaccionar un aceite vegetal epoxidado con un material con función de hidroxilo en presencia de un catalizador ácido para formar un poliol de aceite con función de hidroxilo, y hacer reaccionar al poliol de aceite con función de hidroxilo con un componente de monómero etilénicamente insaturado en presencia de un iniciador para formar el copolímero de injerto de poliol de aceite con función de hidroxilo y c) mezclar la emulsión de látex y un reticulante para entonces agregar el copolímero de injerto de aceite con función de hidroxilo para formar la composición de recubrimiento. Las composiciones de recubrimiento pueden un blanqueamiento mínimo o ninguno, adquisición de color mínima o ninguna y una adherencia comercialmente aceptable. También se describen los sustratos recubiertos con las composiciones de recubrimiento de la invención.
