Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un procedimiento para el hidrotratamiento de un aceite de hidrocarburo pesado que contiene asfaltenos, caracterizado por los pasos de a) hacer reaccionar el aceite de hidrocarburo pesado con hidrógeno a una temperatura de entre 300 y 500 grados C, a una presión de hidrógeno entre 50 y 250 atmósferas y a una velocidad espacial de líquido de entre 0.1 y 10 horas -1, en presencia de un catalizador que comprende un portador poroso compuesto de uno o más óxidos de los elementos de los grupos II, III y IV de la Tablalíticos, seleccionándose del grupo VB, VIB, VIII álicos catalíticos en una cantidad de entre aproximadamente 0.1 y 30 por ciento en terminos de óxido metálico con base en el peso total de dicho catalizador, dicho catalizador teniendo un diámetro de tre aproximadamente 180 y 500 A, b) un volumen total de poros en terminos de cc/g que es por lo menos un valor obtenido dividiendo 0.46 entre la diferencia de 1 menos el cuadrado del cociente de 100 dividido entre el diámetro promedio de poros, el volumen de poros con un diámetro de entre 180 y 500 A siendo por lo menos 0.2 cc/g, el volumen de poros con un diámetro de por lo menos 1500 A siendo no mayor 0.03 cc/g, y c) un área de superficie total de 60 m2/g dicho catalizador teniendo un diámetro promedio de catalizador en terminos de mm, de no más de un valor obtenido como la raíz cuadrada del cociente del diámetro promedio de pros dividido entre 100; b) hacer reaccionar por lo menos una par te del producto del paso (a) con hidrógeno, a una temperatura entre 300 y 500 grados C, una presión de hidrógeno entre 50 hy 250 atmósferas y una velocidad espacial de líquido entre 0.1 y 10 horas -1, en preencia de tal catalizador.
