Abstract

The hydrodeulphurisation (HDS) of hydrocarbon oils of which >70 vol. % boils above 360 degrees C and which have a C5-asphaltene content of 1.0 wt. % and a total V and Ni content of 15 ppm is carried out using a catalyst contg. 6-11 pts. wt. of Co + Mo per 100 pts. wt. of Al2O3 support and having a specific av. pore dia. (p, in nm) and a specific av. particle dia. (d, in mn) such that p/(d) 0-9 = 3-20. The product can be cracked or hydrocracked to produce gasoline or kerosene, or can be used as a blending stock for the prodn. of low-S fuel oils. The activity of the catalyst is at a max. when the particle and pore size requirements are fulfilled.
