Abstract

1281265 Cracking catalyst STANDARD OIL CO 8 April 1970 [8 April 1969] 16612/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A catalytic composition comprises (i) elemental nickel and elemental tungsten, their oxides, their sulphides or mixtures thereof, and (ii) a support comprising a large-pore crystalline aluminosilicate material and a refractory inorganic oxide. By large-pore it is meant that the pores are of a sufficient size to permit the passage thereinto of benzene molecules, e.g. 9 to 10Š or above. Suitably, the large-pore aluminosilicate is an ultrastable, large-pore crystalline aluminosilicate of max. cubic unit cell dimension of 24-55Š, hydroxyl IR bands near 3700 cm<SP>-1</SP> and near 3625cm<SP>-1</SP> and an alkali metal content of less than 1 per cent. The specified refractory oxide is silica-alumina, preferably in the form of a matrix for the aluminosilicate. The quantity of nickel and tungsten present are 0.03 to 0.20 gm-mole of NiO and WO 3 per 100 gms of catalyst with a W/Ni ratio of 0.6 to 12.0. The catalyst may be pretreated before use with a stream of hydrogen optionally containing a little hydrogen sulphide.
