Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain emitted light having small half value width and acute peak by forming another metallic layer except the P-N junction end exposed continuous to the surface electrode and the metallic layer formed on the front and back surfaces of a light emitting diode, thereby erasing a plurality of quasi-peaks formed by the reflected lights. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting diode 1 made of GaAs or the like exposed at the junction 9 formed of an N type conductive layer and a P type conductive layer through a metallized layer 2 at the end face is secured to the bond 3 of a lead frame, and the surface electrode 5 formed on the surface is connected to the inner lead 4 of the lead frame using a fine metallic wire 6. The P-N junction 9 exposed in this configuration is not covered, but is formed at the side surface of a diode 1 with the continuous metallized layers 7, 8 continued to the metallized layer 2 to the electrode 5, therby erasing a plurality of quasi-peaks produced by the reflected light reflected on the layer 2 and the electrode 5. When the metallized layers 7, 8 interposed at both sides of the junction 9 are suitable controlled at the interval, the intensity distribution of the emitted light can be arbitrarily controlled.
