Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the manufacture of a device, increase its reliability and simplify its driving circuit, by adopting a construction in which each of the characteristics in AC and DC type is utilized. CONSTITUTION:On the inner surface of a glass plate 11 the first electrodes 13 are arranged. At a right angle to said electrode 13, barriers 14 consisting of dielectric material are provided. While on the inner surface of a glass plate 12 the third electrodes 15 are formed, then on the third electrode 15 a dielectric layer 16 is formed, further on top of that the second electrodes 17 are arranged parallelly to the third electrode 15. At assembly work of a panel, the electrode 13 and the electrode 17 cross at right angles with each other, further the electrode 17 is arranged in such a manner as to be in a gap of the barrier 14 to seal the periphery of the glass plates 11 and 12. Rare gas for emitting light and a very small quantity of mercury for preventing the scattering of the electrode are sealed to the inside of the panel after it is evacuated to a vacuum.
