Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce failures in firing and to raise reliability by providing the 3rd electrode called a grid electrode simply structured through the isolated layer fronting the discharge cell space. CONSTITUTION:The conductor of the 3rd electrode, the isolated layer 12 and the conductor of the cathode 7 are formed in a panel on the plate 5 by the thick-film printing technique. Electric potential of the grid electrode 11 corresponding to the call to fire is kept lower than that of the cathode 7, while potentials of other grid electrode being kept higher. The grid electrode group 11 is divided, all the grid electrodes corresponding to cathodes of different cathode layers being connected in one. The voltage for this driving is impressed according to the timing chart and during the first period, the on-state is kept so as to get a dischargable state in only the grid electrode layer. So the discharge of fire and luminescence can be achieved precisely.
