Abstract
1404678 Gas discharge display panels OKI ELECTRIC INDUSTRY CO Ltd and OKAYA ELECTRIC INDUSTRY CO Ltd 17 May 1973 [25 May 1972] 23504/73 Heading H1D A cold cathode discharge display apparatus comprises a plurality of first electrodes 11, 12, 21, 22, a second electrode a having a plurality of perforations 11a, 12a, 21a, 22a, each of which is arranged so as substantially to align with one of said first electrodes, a plurality of third electrodes Y 1 , Y 2 , which are arranged parallel to each other and are oriented in a first direction, each of these electrodes having a plurality of perforations 11Y, 12Y, 21Y, 22Y, each of which is substantially aligned with a corresponding perforation of said second electrode, and a plurality of fourth electrodes X 1 , X 2 , which are arranged parallel to each other and are oriented in a second direction, each of these electrodes having a plurality of perforations 11X, 12X, 21X, 22X, each of which is substantially aligned with a corresponding perforation of a said third electrode whereby when a voltage lower than the firing voltage but higher than the voltage for sustaining a discharge is applied between said first and second electrodes and at the same time selected ones of said third and said fourth electrodes are energized by an electrical signal, a discharge pattern is formed in display. The spaces between the electrodes are occupied by insulating material (not shown) except at the perforations. A circuit arrangement is described (Fig. 1, not shown) in which the first electrodes are connected as anodes, the second electrode as a cathode, and the third and fourth electrodes as trigger cathodes and anodes.
