1480459 Gas discharge display panels BURROUGHS CORP 30 July 1975 [29 Aug 1974] 31818/75 Heading H1D In a gas discharge display panel comprising a a base-plate 20 and a faceplate 100 hermetically sealed together, the base-plate 20 has a number of parallel conductive cathode strips 40 covered by an insulating layer 50 having first apertures therein exposing in a row and column array dotlike cathodes 40<SP>1</SP>, over which is a further insulating covering 80 provided with slots 90 aligned with respective cathode rows, and the faceplate 100 has a number of parallel transparent conductive anode strips 120 orthogonal to the cathode strips 40 and overlying the slots 90, each transparent anode strip 120 being covered by a separate opaque conductive layer 130 having a second series of apertures 140 therein exposing dot-like anodes 120<SP>1</SP> in registration with the dot-like cathodes 401. The further insulating covering 80 may be deposited on the base-plate or may form a separate plate, as shown, and the apertures exposing the dot-like anodes and cathodes may be oval in shape. The apertures 140 exposing the anodes 120<SP>1</SP> may be filled with a phosphor, e.g. zinc orthosilicate : Mu, provided as concentric rings between which the anode electrode is exposed, Fig. 5 (not shown). The cathode strips 40 on the base-plate 20 may be more closely spaced in the centre of the baseplate than at the edges thereof to facilitate the formation of an hermetic seal. By appropriately taking the connections to the respective anode strips, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), and cathode strips to the edges of the panel, a number of such panels may be coupled together at their edges to provide a large wall-type display.
