Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a panel which has simple structure, a large display area, and an even luminance by insulating the mutually crossing external electrodes used as auxiliary discharge electrodes by means of an insulating body, and placing an internal electrode near the said external electrodes, within a unit display cell formed with partition walls. CONSTITUTION:Mutually crossing external electrodes 405 used for auxiliary discharge are placed over the surface of a first insulating base plate 401, with an insulating body 420 interposed between the electrodes 405, so that the electrodes 405 are insulated. After that, the surface of the external electrode 405 is coated with a dielectic body 406 with a high dielectric coefficient, and the dielectric body 406 is covered with a protection film 407 which consists of a heat-resisting compound such as MgO and has a large secondary electron discharge efficiency. An internal electrode 421 consisting of Ni paste or the like is placed near the electrode 405, on the upper surface of the insulating body 420. On the other hand, a transparent electrode 423, at least the display part of which consists of transparent conductive glass such as netha glass, is provided on the surface of a second insulating base plate 404 which is opposed to the first base plate 401 and is made of transparent glass or the like. Then, the upper surface of the electrode 423 is coated with a phosphor 424 used for low-velocity electron excitation, such as ZnO.
