Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the life of a surface-discharge-type (monolithic) gas electric-discharge panel by preventing any local concentration of the discharge current by carrying out maintenance discharge of the panel between the faces of two electrodes, which are opposed to one another and provided on the inner wall of a V-shaped concave part. CONSTITUTION:Protruding electrodes (Xa) and (Za) facing one another and provided, respectively, on an upper electrode 2 and a third electrode 3 are provided on the slant inner wall of a V-shaped groove 14 provided on an insulating film 13 such a a PbO glass layer. Therefore, the facing surface areas of the protruding electrodes (Xa) and (Za), which are used for discharge maintenance, becomes large. As a result, any local concentration of electric fields which might be caused in the peripheries of the electrodes is prevented, and any concentration of the discharge current is prevented. Consequently, a gas electric-discharge panel with a long life can be obtained without causing any deterioration of the insulating film 13 and a dielectric layer 15.
