Description

本発明は、防弾チョッキ等の工業製品に使用される安定化織物およびその製造方法に関する。
織物の安定化は長年の検討課題である。特許文献1:英国特許第545770号明細書(1942年6月11日発行)には、織物の寸法安定化のための製法が開示されている。この製法は、加熱による粘着性を内在する少なくとも一種の熱可塑性繊維と織物繊維とを紡糸の前に混合して製造される潜在的に接着可能な繊維(糸)を含む織物を提供する工程から成る。加熱により、織物内で、熱可塑性繊維は織物繊維に実質的に永久接着し、これにより寸法安定性が付与される。
特許文献2:英国特許第1420517号明細書(1976年1月7日発行)には、織布構造の安定化方法が開示されている。この方法は、比較的低い軟化点の成分を有する多成分フィルムから形成されるテープを提供する工程から成る。そのようなテープは、織物構造を安定化する前に、織物構造に織られる。低い軟化点を有する成分の軟化点と融点との間の温度に織物構造を加熱することにより、この成分は織物構造に接着し、寸法安定性が付与され、織物構造の安定化が達成される。
特許文献3:米国特許第5691030号明細書(1997年11月25日発行)には、安定化された織物および織物などを含む強化製品の製造方法が開示されている。フィラメントの交差部分において互いに接着されているコア−鞘型のフィラメントのメッシュから成る接着された織物が提供される。強化構造が付与される1つの方法としては、ガラス、アラミド、炭素などの糸の周りを、主の強化用糸より低い融点を有する他の糸で紡糸、芯織り、被覆、撚りを行い、加熱および圧力により低い融点の糸を強化糸に接着して複合体を形成することである。

本発明の目的は、防弾チョッキ等の工業製品に使用される安定化織物およびその製造方法を提供することである。
すなわち、本発明の要旨は、1)強化用繊維から形成される第1の織物を提供する工程と、2)強化用繊維の軟化点よりも低い軟化点を有する繊維から製造される少なくとも1つの不織布を上記第1の織物の少なくとも片側に配置して構造体を形成する工程と、3)上記不織布を構成する繊維の軟化点と融点との間の温度に得られた構造体を加熱する工程と、4)加熱した構造体を冷却して安定な2次元織物を得る工程とか成る成形品の製造のために設計された安定な織物の製造方法に存する。好ましくは、加熱工程3)の前に上記工程2)における構造体を型に入れ、加熱工程3)に従って型の中で構造体を加熱し、加熱された型に入れられている構造体を冷却工程4)に従って型の中で冷却し、3次元成形品を得る製造方法に存する。更に、不織布は強化繊維状織物の表面に直接形成されてもよい。
本発明の製造方法は、防弾チョッキ等の工業製品に使用される安定化織物を提供することが出来る。
図1は、Spunfab Polyolefin PO4208不織布に片側が被覆されているA&P TX炭素編組み繊維の平坦な繊維状基材の写真である(基材の製法は以下の実施例1を参照)。 図2は、Spunfab Polyamide PA1203不織布に片側が被覆されているA&P TX炭素編組み繊維の平坦な繊維状基材の写真である(基材の製法は以下の実施例1を参照)。 図3は、Spunfab Polyolefin PO4208不織布に片側が被覆されているA&P アラミド編組み繊維の平坦な繊維状基材の写真である(基材の製法は以下の実施例1を参照)。 図4は、Spunfab Polyamide PA203不織布に片側が被覆されているA&P アラミドが編まれている平坦な繊維状基材の写真である(基材の製法は以下の実施例1を参照)。
セラミック繊維、ポリアラミド繊維または炭素繊維などの繊維から形成される高弾性織物から3次元形状に成形することは特に困難である。その結果、通常、織物中に大きな隙間が出来る変形した製品となってしまい、特に綾織りまたは編組み織り繊維物質から作られた織物ではそれが顕著である。不織布を有する高弾性織物の安定化は、取り扱いをより良くするため、そして織物の品位や完全性を失うことなく織物を変形できることにより、高弾性強化繊維織物を顕著に安定化させることに有用である。これは、3次元形状を形成すること又は非3次元形状の安定な織物配列を維持することを可能にする。これは、弾性不織布を使用する安定化+/−45°織物の製造も可能にする。不織布の安定化無しの場合、3次元形状物質に機械方向または横方向に応力を負荷または引張した際に、実質的に損傷を受けないままその負荷方向に頻繁に変形される。+/−45°非安定化網の現行の生産は、代表的には幅および安定性の維持のためにキャリアを伴っている。
不織布は、強化用繊維の軟化点よりも低い軟化点を有する熱可塑性繊維から形成される。熱可塑性繊維としては、ポリアミド又はポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン等のポリオレフィンが好ましく、成形プロセスを容易にする弾性繊維であってもよい。他の好ましい熱可塑性繊維としては、共重合ポリオレフィン類、ポリウレタン類、共重合ポリエステル類、Pebax(登録商標)等のポリエーテルブロックアミド類、Hytrel(登録商標)等のポリエステルエラストマー類、スチレン−エチレン−ブチレン−スチレンポリマー、スチレン−ブチレン−スチレンポリマー、ポリエーテルケトンケトンポリマー、ポリフェニレンスルフィドポリマー、ポリエーテルエーテルケトンポリマーなどが挙げられる。
強化用繊維は、好ましくは炭素繊維、セラミック繊維、ポリアラミド繊維、Lycra(登録商標)などの弾性ポリウレタン繊維、ポリエステル繊維、ナイロン等のポリアミド繊維、ポリプロピレン、超高分子量ポリエチレン、Vectran(登録商標)などの溶融紡糸液晶ポリマー繊維およびKuralon(登録商標)などのポリビニルアルコール繊維から成る群より選択される繊維である。強化用繊維織物が不織布を片側に有するチューブ状に編組みされたLycra(登録商標)繊維である場合、本プロセスはスポーツ用品の製造にも使用できる。この製品は、スポーツウエアまたはファッション等に使用される女性用用品に成形出来る。
実施例1:
アラミド編組み繊維(A&P社製)基材および炭素繊維が編組みされているTX−45(A&P社製)基材(大きさ約3ヤード四方)を、Spunfab co−Polyamide PA1203(6g/m)又はSpunfab Polyolefin PO4208(6g/m)の不織布の片側に被覆させた。
被覆アラミド基材は4インチ四方に切取られた。被覆炭素繊維基材は4.5インチの円板状に切取られた。これらの基材それぞれを長方形トレーに入れ、約280°Fの温度に予備加熱されたオーブン中に30〜40秒入れて加熱した。
実施例2:
加熱工程前に、実施例1で使用したそれぞれの基材を、半径約1.5インチのステンレススチール半球アルミニウム製型に入れ、300°Fに加熱されたオーブン中に30〜40秒入れた。加熱された織物が入れられている型は4オンスの圧力下で約160°Fまで冷却された。次いで型を開け、安定化された織物を取出した。安定化織物の3次元形状が保たれており、織物の寸法は実質的に保たれていた。
実施例3:
実施例1のそれぞれの基材を、加熱工程の後に、約半径1.5インチのステンレススチール製半球型に入れた。予め加熱した基材を含む型を300°Fのオーブン中の金属トレーに置き、更に10秒保持した。オーブンから型を取出し、大気圧中で冷却した。成形体を型から取出し、成形体の形状は型の形状に保たれていた。本プロセスは、特に、セラミック、炭素、KEVLAR(登録商標、ポリアラミド繊維、Dupont社製)等から成る高弾性糸で編組みされて形成される成形品に適用できる。
このような安定化織物は、3次元形状または2次元形状で防弾チョッキに使用することが出来る。炭素繊維を使用した場合、3次元成形体としては、自動車のトランスミッション筐体、自動車の座席バックパネル、女性用胸部サポート及びスポーツウエアなどの他の成形体としての使用が考えられる。
安定化すべき織物の表面に不織布を被覆又は最初に形成する際、弾性または非弾性不織布が実質的に平坦な安定化製品を製造するのに使用できる。平坦な物品は、不織布の軟化点と融点との間の温度に加熱され、次いで型に入れられて成形体を形成できる。織物の表面に配置される不織布は、弾性または非弾性、連続または非連続、単層または多層であってもよい。
本発明の製造方法は、防弾チョッキ等の工業製品に使用される安定化織物を提供することが出来る。

Claims (5)

  1. 1)編組み強化用繊維から形成される第1の織物を提供する工程と、2)強化用繊維の軟化点よりも低い軟化点を有する繊維から形成される少なくとも1つの不織布を上記第1の織物の少なくとも片側に配置して構造体を形成する工程と、3)得られた構造体を型に入れる工程と、4)上記不織布の軟化点と融点との間の温度に型の中の構造体を加熱する工程と、5)更に型の中の構造体を冷却する工程と、6)構造体を型から取出して安定な3次元織物を得る工程とから成る、安定な3次元織物の製造方法。
  2. 不織布が熱可塑性繊維から形成されている請求項1に記載の製造方法。
  3. 熱可塑性繊維がポリアミド又は共重合ポリアミドから成る請求項1に記載の製造方法。
  4. 強化用繊維が、炭素繊維、セラミック繊維およびポリアラミド繊維から成る群より選択される請求項1に記載の製造方法。
  5. 熱可塑性繊維が、ポリオレフィン、共重合ポリオレフィン、ポリウレタン、ポリエステル及び共重合ポリエステルから選択される弾性熱可塑性繊維である請求項1に記載の製造方法。
