Bindzil 25AT/360:濃度22〜27重量%のアルミナ修飾されたシリカゾル、平均粒径7nm、SiO2/Na2Oモル比50:1、Akzo Nobel (Eka Chemicals)製、pH9.8〜10;
Nyacol:濃度40重量%のシリカゾル、平均粒径16nm、SiO2/Na2Oモル比105:1、Akzo Nobel (Eka Chemicals)製、pH9.8;

ショッププライマーコーティングのポットライフに対するアルミナ含量の効果を決定するために、28体積%の固形濃度を有するいくつかの組成物を調製した。プライマーコーティングは、71.0%の顔料体積濃度を有し、これは、臨界顔料体積濃度の1.4倍である。実施例1で使用された組成物を、以下の成分から調製した。
ポットライフは、全ての成分を混合した後、コーティング施与の1時間後にコーティングの特性の低下が認められるときの時間である。これらの実験では、コーティング施与の1時間後に測定されたコーティング特性における50%低下を、ポットライフが超えられたことを示すものとした。
実施例1、2、3および4のショッププライマー組成物を調製した。成分の混合の0.5時間後、1.5時間後、4時間後、6時間後および/または24時間後に、35℃および30%相対湿度で、15cmx10cmの鋼板に、15〜20μmの乾燥膜厚で組成物を施与した。プライマーを環境条件(23℃、60%RH)下で乾燥させた。
施与されたコーティングの耐摩耗性を、1時間後および24時間後に測定した(2回こすり試験)。2回こすり試験では、表面を2、3滴の水で湿らし(湿式で2回こする場合)、次いで、軽く圧力をかけて綿棒でこすった。1往復が2回のこすりである。結果を、コーティングの除去までの2回こすりの数として表す。コーティングが100回の2回こすりに耐えるならば、最終の乾燥膜厚(dft)を初期値と比較する。乾燥膜厚が25%より多く減少しているならば、結果を>100と表す。乾燥膜厚が25%未満減少しているならば、結果を>>100と表す。結果を下記表2に示す。
実施例1、2、3および4のショッププライマー組成物を調製した。成分の混合の0.5時間後、1.5時間後、4時間後、6時間後および/または24時間後に、35℃および30%相対湿度で、15cmx10cmの鋼板に、15〜20μmの乾燥膜厚で組成物を施与した。指触乾燥である程度までコーティングを乾燥した後、水中の部分的に加水分解された(pH=2)TEOS(テトラエチルオルトシリケート)の5%溶液で処理した。その後、プライマーを環境条件(23℃、60%RH)下で貯蔵した。コーティングの耐摩耗性を、TEOS溶液による処理の1時間後および24時間後に測定した(2回こすり試験)。結果を下記表3に示す。
施与後のコーティングの種々のコンディショニング法の効果を決定するために、28体積%の固形濃度を有する組成物を下記成分から調製した。プライマーコーティングは70%の顔料体積濃度を有し、これは、臨界顔料体積濃度の1.06倍である。
実験14aでは、指触乾燥である程度までコーティングを乾燥した後、水中の5%ZnSO4溶液で処理した。実験14bでは、コーティングされた鋼板を23℃、60%RHで貯蔵した。実験14cでは、コーティングされた鋼板を23℃、35%RHで貯蔵した。
コーティング層の耐摩耗性を、コンディショニングの10分後、1時間後および24時間後に測定した(2回こすり試験)。さらに、鉛筆硬度を測定した。結果を下記表4に示す。
大きいゾルに関する、ポットライフおよび特性発生速度に対するアルミナ修飾の効果を示すために、28体積%の固形濃度および50%の顔料体積濃度(これは臨界顔料体積濃度の0.72倍である)を有する組成物を調製した。組成物を下記成分から調製した。
コーティング層の耐摩耗性を、コーティングの施与の1時間後および24時間後に測定した(2回こすり試験)。さらに、鉛筆硬度を測定した。結果を下記表5に示す。
ショッププライマーコーティングの膜特性に対するアルミナ処理されたゾルの大きさの効果を決定するために、50%の顔料体積濃度を有する2つの組成物を調製した。実施例17のために、下記成分から組成物を調製した。
コーティング層の耐摩耗性を、施与の1時間後および24時間後に測定した(2回こすり試験)。さらに、鉛筆硬度を測定した。結果を下記表6に示す。
小さいゾルに関する、特性発生速度およびポットライフに対する、アルミナ修飾のおよび第二のポットライフエクステンダーとしてのジメチルアミノエタノール(DMAE)の効果を示すために、いくつかの組成物を調製した。プライマーコーティングは、50.0%の顔料体積濃度を有し、これは臨界顔料体積濃度の0.72倍である。
実施例19のために、28体積%の固形濃度を有する組成物を下記成分から調製した。
コーティング層の耐摩耗性を、施与の1時間後に測定した(2回こすり試験)。さらに、鉛筆硬度を測定した。これらの実験では、コーティング施与の1時間後に測定されたコーティング特性の50%低下が、ポットライフが達成されたことを示すと仮定された。結果を下記表7に示す。

- 組み立てられそして上塗りされることが意図される鋼にプライマーコーティングする方法であって、鋼が、シリカバインダーを含むプライマーコーティングでプライマーコーティングされる方法において、バインダーが、アルミナ安定化された水性シリカゾルを含み、該バインダーは少なくとも15:1のSiO2/M2O(SiO 2 :M 2 O)モル比(Mはアルカリ金属およびアンモニウムイオンを表す)を有し、かつプライマーコーティングが、指触乾燥の程度まで乾燥した後、所望により膜強化溶液によって処理されることを特徴とする方法、ただし、12nmの平均粒径および125:1のSiO2/Na2O(SiO 2 :Na 2 O)モル比を有する、アルミナ修飾されたゾル25.8重量%、水20.4重量%、ベントナイト粘土チキソトロープ0.2重量%、亜鉛粉末45.5重量%、および1.4μmの平均粒径の焼成されたケイ酸アルミニウムエクステンダー顔料8.1重量%から成るプライマーコーティングで鋼がプライマーコーティングされ、そしてプライマーコーティングが、20℃および35%相対湿度で指触乾燥の程度まで乾燥した後、5重量%の水性塩化カリウム溶液の0.2gでスプレーされ、その後15〜20℃および35%相対湿度で乾燥されるところの方法を除く。
- アルミナ安定化されたシリカゾルが、アルミナで表面修飾されたシリカゾルであることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
- バインダーが、シリカゾルに基づいてAl2O3の重量%として計算して0.05〜2.0重量%のアルミナ、および任意的なアルカリ金属シリケート粒子を組成物中に含むことを特徴とする、請求項1または2記載の方法。
- バインダーが少なくとも25:1のSiO2/M2O(SiO 2 :M 2 O)モル比のシリカゾルであることを特徴とする、請求項1〜3のいずれか1項記載の方法。
- シリカ粒子が22nm以下の平均サイズを有することを特徴とする、請求項1〜4のいずれか1項記載の方法。
- シリカ粒子が16nm以下の平均サイズを有することを特徴とする、請求項5記載の方法。
- プライマーコーティングが、亜鉛粉末および/または亜鉛アロイをさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項1〜6のいずれか1項記載の方法。
- プライマーコーティングが、有機樹脂をさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項1〜7のいずれか1項記載の方法。
- プライマーコーティングが指触乾燥の程度まで乾燥した後、コーティングされた基体が水中に浸漬されまたは少なくとも50%の相対湿度を有する雰囲気中に保持されることを特徴とする、請求項1〜8のいずれか1項記載の方法。
- シリカバインダーのpHが、9.5〜11の範囲のpHに調整されることを特徴とする、請求項1〜9のいずれか1項記載の方法。
- シリカバインダーを含む、鋼基体のためのプライマーコーティング組成物において、バインダーが、アルミナ安定化された水性シリカゾルを含み、かつ少なくとも15:1のSiO2/M2O(SiO 2 :M 2 O)モル比(Mはアルカリ金属およびアンモニウムイオンを表す)を有することを特徴とする組成物、ただし、12nmの平均粒径および125:1のSiO2/Na2O(SiO 2 :Na 2 O)モル比を有する、アルミナ修飾されたゾル25.8重量%、水20.4重量%、ベントナイト粘土チキソトロープ0.2重量%、亜鉛粉末45.5重量%、および1.4μmの平均粒径の焼成されたケイ酸アルミニウムエクステンダー顔料8.1重量%から成るプライマーコーティングを除く。
- バインダーが、シリカゾルに基づいてAl2O3の重量%として計算して0.05〜2.0重量%のアルミナ、および任意的なアルカリ金属シリケート粒子を組成物中に含むアルミナ修飾されたシリカゾルであることを特徴とする、請求項11記載のプライマーコーティング組成物。
- シリカまたはアルカリ金属シリケート粒子が22nm以下の平均粒径を有することを特徴とする、請求項11または12記載のプライマーコーティング組成物。
