Description
ガラスおよびセラミック技術において一般的であるように、ビーズの成分は、酸化物が完成品中に存在するとみなされる形態であると共に、ビーズ中の化学元素および化学元素の割合を正確に説明する形態である酸化物として表現される。ビーズを製造するために用いられる出発材料は、酸化物以外の炭酸塩などの何らかの化合物であることが可能であるが、組成物は、原料の溶融中に酸化物形態に変性されることになる。従って、本発明のビーズ組成物を理論酸化物基準の観点から論じる。
本発明による微小球は、例えば、米国特許第3,493,403号(Tun)において開示されたような従来の方法によって調製することが可能である。一つの有用な方法において、各出発材料のサイズが好ましくは約0.01μm〜約50μmである出発材料を特定の形で量って注ぎ、互いに密に混合する。出発原材料は、溶融するかまたは熱処理すると酸化物を形成する化合物を含む。これらには、単独で、あるいは二つ以上の種類を組み合わせた、酸化物(例えば、シリカ、アルミナ、ジルコニア、チタニア)、水酸化物、酸塩化物、塩化物、硝酸塩、酢酸塩、硫酸塩などを挙げることが可能である。さらに、ムライト(3Al2O3・2SiO2)およびジルコン(ZrO2・SiO2)などの複合酸化物も、単独で、あるいは上述した原材料と組み合わせて用いることが可能である。
本発明による透明(好ましくは融合)ビーズをコーティング組成物に配合することが可能である(例えば、米国特許第3,410,185号(Harrington)、米国特許第2,963,378号(Palmquistら)、およびビーズを分散させる膜形成性結合材料を一般に含む米国特許第3,228,897号(Nellessen)を参照すること)。あるいは、舗道マーキングの場合のように塗装ライン用のドロップオン用途においてビーズを用いることが可能である。
チタニア、ジルコニア、アルミナおよびシリカ(TZASまたはZAST)の幾つかのビーズ組成物を以下で示すように製造した。粉末をガラスジャー内に入れ、振とうによって混合した。その後、固形物約65〜70重量%の水性スラリーとして、粉末をSzegvari摩砕機ミル(オハイオ州アクロンのユニオンプロセス(Union Process))内で微粉砕(ミリング)した。バッチ200gの粉末を微粉砕するために直径3/16インチ(0.48cm)の球状アルミナ媒体715グラム(g)を用いた。摩砕機ミルの体積は750mlであった。粉末50%で2時間微粉砕後に、スラリーをジャー内に集め、乾燥用オーブン内に入れて水を蒸発させた。その後、乾燥させた固形物を乳鉢と乳棒を用いて破砕し、必要な粒子サイズ範囲に篩で篩った。用いた粉末は次の通りであった。
シリカ粉末(キンセイマテック(Kinseimatech Co.)、Snow Mark sp−3、1.05g)、酸化ジルコニウム粉末(ダイイチキゲンソ(Daiichikigenso Ind.Co.)、EP、8.25g)、酸化アルミニウム粉末(住友化学、AES−12、6.75g)、炭酸カルシウム粉末(宇部マテリアルズ(Ube Materials)3N−A、3.3g)およびチタニア粉末(イシハラテクノ(Ishihara Techno Co.)、CR−EL、16g)を水50gと混合した。混合物をガラスジャー内に入れ、20時間にわたり混転した。20時間の時点で、それを乾燥し、乳鉢で破砕した。その後、ガラスジャー内で再び混転することにより、破砕した粉末を再凝集させた。凝集物を篩にかけて106〜180μmを得た。この凝集した材料を1100℃に加熱し、放置して1時間にわたりこの温度のままにした。
ガラスビーズを実施例17に従って調製した。この実施例における出発材料の組成を第3表および第4表に記載する。得られたビーズ(950℃で5分にわたり熱処理されたもの)のビッカース硬度も第3表に示す。

Claims (1)
- チタニアと、アルミナ、ジルコニアおよびシリカの少なくとも一種とを含む透明中実ガラスセラミック微小球であって、
チタニアと、アルミナ、ジルコニアおよび/またはシリカの全含有率が前記中実微小球の全重量に対して少なくとも75重量%であり、
シリカの含有率が前記中実微小球の全重量に対して5〜35重量%の範囲内であり、
チタニア、アルミナおよびジルコニアの全含有率が前記シリカの含有率より多く、チタニア含有率が前記中実微小球の全重量に対して少なくとも10重量%の量で存在し、かつ
チタネート、チタニア、ジルコネート、ジルコニアまたはそれらの組み合わせを含む結晶相を含み、そして
ナノスケールのガラスセラミック微小構造を有する、透明中実ガラスセラミック微小球。
