Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the title glass contg. TiO2, BaO, ZnO, ZrO2, SiO2, CaO, SrO, etc. in a specified ratio, having such a high refractive index as above 2.1 and strong reflective action, and fit for long-term use as a traffic-control sign without being blackened by SO2 esp. in exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: The high refractive index glass for glass heads consists of, by wt., TiO2; 42W50%, BaO; 20W40%, ZnO; 2.5W30%, ZrO2; 2.5W25%, SiO2; 0.2W 1.5%, CaO≤2%, SrO≤6%, Al2O3≤2%, Na2O≤1.5%, K2O≤1.5% and Li2O ≤1.5% and contains no B2O3. The addn. of a little SiO2 stabilizes the glass structure to enable the ZrO2 content to be raised. The heterogeneity of glass in a melt- forming process is thus improved, and glass beads of high transparency are obtd.
