Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide ThO2-free low dispersion optical glass having a special composition based on SiO2, B2O3, ZnO, ZrO2, La2O3 and Y2O3, superior devitrification resistance and a high refractive index.
CONSTITUTION: A mixt. consisting of, by weight SiO2 2W5%, B2O3 24W32%, ZnO 1W20%, ZrO2 1W10%, La2O3 45.1W55%, Y2O3 1W20%, CaO+PbO 0W10%, WO3 0W10%, Nb2O5 0W20% and Li2O+K2O+Na2O 0W1% is melted at 1250W 1350°C, refined, agitated, poured into a mold preheated to a suitable temp., and slowly cooled to obtain optical glass having a refractive index of 1.74W1.85 and an abbe's no. of 38W55.
