Description
図1は本発明に係る燃料電池用電極(以下、必要に応じてアノード電極またはカソード電極と呼ぶ。アノード電極およびカソード電極をまとめて単に電極と呼ぶ場合がある。)を備えた燃料電池の断面図である。
1) イオン伝導体が触媒粒子を被覆するので、反応面積が大きくなる。
2)塩基性ポリマーと強酸との組み合わせで無加湿、高温でもプロトン伝導性が確保できるため、無加湿、高温の条件下で電池の作動が可能である。これは、塩基性ポリマーが強酸と複合体を形成しており、この複合体がプロトンが伝導するためである。
3)塩基性ポリマーがリン酸を保持しており、外部への流出は少なく、長時間にわたり安定に作動できる。
本発明の典型的な電極を以下のようにして製造した。まず、室温で、ビーカー内のポリリン酸(PPA:108%)14gにPBI粉末を12.8g加えて撹拌した。得られた混合物に85%リン酸を1.7g加えた。得られた混合物にメタンスルホン酸(MSA)1.5gおよびテトラフルオロ酢酸(TFA)8.55gを添加した。得られた混合物を約1日撹拌・混合を行った。
本発明の別の典型的な電極を以下のようにして製造した。室温でビーカー中、テトラフルオロ酢酸(TFA)35gに、PBIパウダー2.4gを加え、約一日撹拌した。得られた混合物にメタンスルホン酸(MSA)を0.71g加え、撹拌しながら85%リン酸11.32gを徐々に添加した。得られた混合物を約1日撹拌・混合を行った。酸(TFA)8.55gを添加した。得られた混合物を約1日撹拌・混合を行った。
比較例1として電極中のイオン伝導体として、Nafion(登録商標)を含有した電極をアノードおよびカソードに使用し、電解質としてPBI-リン酸を使用した燃料電池(単セル)を用意した。
(発電試験結果)
参考例1および参考例2の電極をアノードおよびカソードに使用し、電解質としてPBI-リン酸を使用して燃料電池(単セル)の発電試験を行った。また、比較例1の燃料電池の発電試験を行った。
(電池性能の結着材重量依存性)
参考例2の電極の製造方法と同様な手順で、イオン伝導体(PBI-リン酸)と白金担持触媒との重量比を変えた電極を作製し、各電極をアノードおよびカソードに使用し、電解質としてPBI-リン酸を使用した各燃料電池(単セル)について性能を評価した。図4は、イオン伝導体(PBI-リン酸)と白金担持触媒との重量比を変えたときの電流−電圧曲線を示す。
Claims (4)
- 塩基性ポリマーおよびリン酸または硫酸からなる強酸を含むイオン伝導体と、
貴金属を含む触媒と、
前記イオン伝導体と前記触媒とを結着する結着材と、
を含む触媒層を備え、
前記塩基性ポリマーがポリチアジアゾール、ポリ(テトラザビレン)、ポリオキサゾール、ポリチアゾール、ポリビニールピリジンおよびポリビニールイミダゾールからなる群から選択される少なくとも1種であり、
前記イオン伝導体および前記触媒が粉末状であり、
前記イオン伝導体の重量が白金を含む前記触媒の重量に対し、0.5〜50重量%であり、
100℃以上の高温および無加湿の条件下で使用される燃料電池用電極。 - 前記触媒が白金を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の燃料電池用電極。
- 前記結着材の添加量が、白金を含む前記触媒の重量に対して1〜50%であることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の燃料電池用電極。
- アノード及びカソードを電解質の両側に配したセルを備える燃料電池において、
前記アノードおよび前記カソードの少なくとも一方が、請求項1から3のいずれか1項に記載の燃料電池用電極で形成されたことを特徴とする燃料電池。
