Description
図3A〜3Dは、対向ピストンエンジンのポート加工されたシリンダ内の第1燃焼室構造を定めるための、相補ピストン端面構造のピストン冠(クラウン部)を示している。一方のピストン冠は、ピストン冠が取り付けられた又は形成されたピストンの外縁から内部方向に湾曲した凹面を規定する窪みを囲む外縁を含む端面構造を有する。他方のピストン冠は、ピストン冠が取り付けられた又は形成されたピストンの内側から外部方向に突き出た凸面を囲む外縁を含み、細長い割れ目がピストンの直径方向に延びている端面構造を有する。凹面が凸面を受け入れ、その中に燃焼室を定めるように細長(長手状)の割れ目が凸面に適合する。好ましくは、これら2つの端面の間で定められた燃焼室空間は、細長の楕円形の形態又は細長の楕円形に極めて近い形態であり、タンブル運動を強化及び維持するように略対称の配置(ジオメトリ)を提供する。
図8A及び8Bは、細長の楕円形を有する第2燃焼室構造の仕組みを規定するピストン端面を有するピストン冠を示している。燃焼室は、対向ピストンエンジンのポート加工されたシリンダに配置された対向ピストンの相補的な端面構造により定められる。一般的に左右対称の同一構造が対向ピストンの各端面に形成されており、ピストンは、面の相補的形状(特徴)を対向して配置するように、回転して配向される。
Claims (14)
- 少なくとも1つのシリンダ(120)を含み、該シリンダには、縦方向に分離された排気ポート及び給気ポート(126、124)と、シリンダ(120)の孔に互いに対向して配置される一対のピストンとが備えられた、内燃エンジンの燃焼室構造であって、
前記シリンダ内の上死点(TDC)位置近傍に前記ピストンが位置するときに、前記ピストンは、細長のテーパー形状を有する燃料室(200、400)を定める形状端面(182a、182b;382、382)を有し、且つ、少なくとも1つのインジェクションポート(203、403)が前記燃焼室の主軸(202、402)に整列し、
前記シリンダは、前記燃焼室の前記インジェクションポートに整列する位置で、前記シリンダの半径方向に延びる少なくとも1つの燃料インジェクタポート(165、265)を含むことを特徴とする燃焼室構造。 - 前記細長のテーパー形状は、第1端面(182a、382)の第1形状(183、384a)と、第2端面(182b、382)の前記第1形状と相補的である第2形状(186、384b)との間で定められることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の燃焼室構造。
- 第1端面(182a)は、凹面を定める窪み(183)を含み、且つ、第2端面(182b)は、凸面(186)に形成された平面略楕円形状の細長の割れ目(188)を含むことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の燃焼室構造。
- 各端面(382)は、細長のテーパー形状の主軸(385)の各側方に配置される第1及び第2領域(384a、384b)を含み、各領域は、端面外縁からピストン内部に向かって内側に湾曲した第1部分(387)と、該端面外縁から外側に突出した第2部分(389)とを有し、前記第1部分の前記第1及び第2領域が前記第2部分の前記第1及び第2領域に向かい合うように前記領域が構成されることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の燃焼室構造。
- 請求項1から4のいずれか一項に記載の燃焼室構造を含む、対向ピストン内燃エンジン。
- 対向ピストン内燃エンジンを作動するための方法であって、
孔内の各上死点に向けてピストンが移動するときに前記ピストンの端面間に細長のテーパー形状を有する燃焼室(200、400)を形成することによって請求項2に記載の前記燃焼室を含み、旋回する給気(217、417)に応答して前記燃焼室内の給気の各タンブル運動(216、416)を生成し、そして、前記燃焼室内に燃料(148、248)を噴射することを特徴とする対向ピストン内燃エンジンを作動するための方法。 - 前記燃焼室への燃料(148、248)供給の噴射は、前記細長のテーパー形状における主軸(187、202)に沿って前記燃料を噴射することを含むことを特徴とする請求項6に記載の方法。
- 前記燃焼室への燃料供給の噴射は、前記主軸に沿って、対向するスプレーを噴射することを含むことを特徴とする請求項7に記載の方法。
- 各タンブル運動を生成することは、前記燃焼室の両端でそれぞれ反転タンブル運動を生成することを含むことを特徴とする請求項6に記載の方法。
- 前記燃焼室への燃料供給の噴射は、主軸に沿って対向するスプレーの噴射を含むことを特徴とする請求項9に記載の方法。
- 前記燃焼室(200、400)を形成する前に、前記孔に流入される給気に渦運動(217、417)を課し、前記燃焼室が形成されるときに、旋回する給気にスキッシュ運動(212、214;441、442)を課し、さらに、スキッシュ運動及び渦運動の間の相互作用によって反転タンブル運動(216、416)を生成することを特徴とする請求項6に記載の方法。
- 前記給気への燃料(148、248)供給の噴射は、回転タンブル軸(187、202)に沿って対向する燃料スプレーの噴射を含むことを特徴とする請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記燃焼室(200、400)を形成する前に、前記孔に流入される給気に渦運動(217、417)を課し、前記端面(182a、182b、;382、382)で前記渦運動の相互作用によって反転タンブル運動(216、416)を生成することを特徴とする請求項6に記載の方法。
- 前記給気への燃料供給の噴射は、回転タンブル軸に沿って対向する燃料スプレーの噴射を含むことを特徴とする請求項13に記載の方法。
