Claims (12)
- 対向ピストンエンジン用の燃焼室構造体であって、内腔部と、長手方向に離間配置された吸気ポート及び排気ポート(124、126)を含む少なくとも1つのシリンダ(120)とを備え、前記シリンダには、前記内腔部(121)に互いに対向配置した一対のピストン(50、60)が設けられ、
前記ピストンは、前記シリンダの各々の上心位置近傍にある時、その噴射軸(67)を含む対称面を基準とした左右対称の細長形状を有する燃焼室(200)と、前記噴射軸上に位置する一対の噴射ポート(56と66、56と66)を形成する端面(52、62)とを有し、
前記燃焼室は、前記一対のピストンの第1のピストン(50)の前記端面(52)のボール部(54)と、前記一対のピストンの第2のピストン(60)の前記端面(62)の概凸状部分との間に画定され、前記概凸状部分は、外方に突出する略同一の複数の稜部と、外方に突出する当該稜部の間の裂状部とを備えており、前記第1のピストンの前記端面の前記ボール部が前記概凸状部分を受けて裂状部を被覆し、
前記第2のピストンの端面を平面視したとき、それぞれの前記稜部(69)は、前記第2のピストンの前記端面(62)の外縁部(63)に向かって湾曲する中心部(72)を含み、前記中心部(72)は前記外縁部(63)から離反する方向に湾曲する各側方部(74)に移行し、
前記シリンダは、前記第1と第2のピストンが前記各々の上心位置の近傍にある時、前記燃焼室の前記噴射ポート(56と66、56と66)と互いに整列配置される一対の対向燃料噴射器ポート(125)を含む、燃焼室構造体。 - 略同一の前記稜部(69)の前記中心部(72)は、前記燃焼室が形成されると、略球形または回転楕円形の一つの燃焼室容積部(75)を画定することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の燃焼室構造体。
- 各端面(52,62)は、外縁部と、前記外縁部の内側に存する環状面と、前記環状面に形成された直径方向に対向する切欠き部(56,66)とを備え、前記第1と第2のピストンが前記各々の上心位置の近傍にある時、前記第1のピストン(50)の端面の前記切欠き部(56)は前記第2のピストン(60)の端面の前記切欠き部(66)と整列配置され、前記燃焼室の前記一対の噴射ポートを形成することを特徴とする請求項2に記載の燃焼室構造体。
- 前記第1のピストン(50)は前記排気ポート(124)を制御し、前記第2のピストン(60)は前記吸気ポート(126)を制御することを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか1項に記載の燃焼室構造体。
- 請求項1から4のいずれか1項に記載の燃焼室を含む対向ピストンエンジン。
- 前記裂状部は、前記燃焼室の前記噴射軸を含む対称面を基準とする左右対称の細長形状を有し、
前記第1のピストンの前記端面の前記ボール部は、ピストンの外縁部からピストン内部へ向かって湾曲する凹状面を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の燃焼室構造体。 - 請求項2から4のいずれか1項に記載の燃焼室を含む対向ピストンエンジンの運転方法であって、
前記ピストンの間で、給気渦流を前記シリンダへ導入し、
前記ピストンを圧縮ストロークで互いに向かって移動させ、
燃焼室(200)を形成し、
前記ピストンが前記内腔部の各々の上心位置に向かって移動すると、給気渦流を、前記ピストンの端面間の前記燃焼室の部分的に球形の中心部(75)に集結させ、
前記燃焼室の各側方部(77)で給気にタンブル回転を発生させ、
燃料を、前記側方部を介して前記燃焼室内へ噴射する、
運転方法。 - 前記燃焼室へ燃料を噴射することは、前記燃料を前記燃焼室の前記噴射軸に沿って噴射することを含むことを特徴とする請求項7に記載の方法。
- 前記燃焼室へ燃料を噴射することは、前記噴射軸に沿って、複数の燃料スプレー噴射を互いに対向して行うことを含むことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の方法。
- さらに、前記燃焼室が形成されると、内方へ向かう対向スキッシュ流を給気に発生させることを含むことを特徴とする請求項7から9のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- さらに、前記燃焼室で給気が圧縮されることに応えて、前記燃料を点火することを含むことを特徴とする請求項10に記載の方法。
- もう一つのピストンの対向するクラウン部と共に燃焼室を形成するクラウン部を有するピストンであって、前記クラウン部(61)は、前記ピストン(60)の内部から外方に突出する凸状部(64)を包囲する外縁部(63)を有する端面(62)と、前記凸状部(64)に形成され、前記ピストン(60)の直径方向に延びる細長形状の裂状部(65)と、噴射軸(67)に沿って整列配置されかつ前記端面(61)に形成され、前記外縁部(63)を介して前記裂状部(65)の各端部内に開口する対向切欠き部(66)とを備え、
前記裂状部(65)は、前記ピストン(60)の前記噴射軸(67)と縦軸(68)を含む対称面を基準とした左右対称の細長形状を有し、
前記左右対称形状は、前記ピストン(60)の端面から外方に突出する略同一の稜部(69)の間に画定され、
各稜部は、前記外縁部(63)に向かって外方に湾曲する中心部(72)を含み、前記中心部(72)は前記外縁部(63)から離反して内方に湾曲する側方部(74)に移行し、
前記略同一の中心部の曲率が外方/内方へ変化することにより、前記裂状部(65)の中心部に球形の容積部(75)と、前記噴射軸(67)に沿って互いに整列配置され、前記中心容積部(75)の各側に位置する側方スプレー噴射クリアランスチャネル(77)とが画定される、ピストン。
