Abstract
Description
電解セルは、流体の1つ又は複数の特性を変更する多様な応用で使用される。たとえば、電解セルはクリーニング/消毒への応用、医療産業、および半導体製造工程で使用されてきた。さらに電解セルは、多様な他の応用で使用され、多様な構造を有してきた。
電解セルは、少なくとも1つの陽極電極と少なくとも1つの陰極電極との間で流体を横切って電界を印加するように適応された流体処理セルを含む。電界セルは、任意の適切な数の電極、流体を含有する任意の適切な数の室、および任意の適切な数の流体入力および流体出力を有する。セルは、任意の流体(たとえば、液体、または気体と液体との組み合わせ)を処理するように適応される。セルは、陽極と陰極との間に1つまたは複数のイオン選択性膜を含み得るか、またはイオン選択性膜を有しないように構成され得る。
図1は電界セル10の実施例を示す略図である。電解セル10は、処理されるべき液体を液体源12から受け取る。液体源12はタンクまたは他の溶液リザーバを含むか、外部源から液体を受け取る管継手または他の入口を含む。
1つの実施例において、陽極電極または陰極電極の少なくとも1つは金属メッシュから形成される。金属メッシュは、均一サイズの長方形開口を格子形式で有する。1つの具体的な実施例において、メッシュは0.023インチ直径のT316ステンレススチールから形成される。このステンレススチールは、平方インチ当たり20×20格子開口の格子パターンを有する。しかし他の実施例では、他の寸法、配列、および材料を使用し得る。
電極自体は、任意の適切な形状、たとえば平面極板、同軸極板、円柱極棒、またはこれらの組み合わせの形状を有し得る。図2は、1つの実施例として管状形状を有する電解セル10を示す。セル10の径方向断面は、任意の形状、たとえば図2で示される円、または他の形状、たとえば1つまたは複数の曲線縁を有する曲線形状および/または直線形状を有し得る。具体的な実施例は、楕円形、多角形、たとえば長方形などを含む。
図3〜図9は、この開示の具体的な実施例に従った電解セルを示す。図3〜図9の同一または類似の要素については、同じ参照番号が使用される。図面で示される寸法はインチであり、単なる非限定的な例として提供される。他の実施例では、様々な他の寸法が使用され得る。
Claims (12)
- 入口および出口と、
同軸の内側電極および外側電極と、
前記内側電極と前記外側電極との間のギャップに置かれ、前記イオン選択性膜の対向する側で、それぞれ第1の電解反応室および第2の電解反応室が形成されるイオン選択性膜と、
を含み、
前記第1の室および前記第2の室に沿った流体流路が、前記出口を通過する結合出口流路として合流する電解セル。 - 前記結合出口流路は前記内側電極を通過する、請求項1に記載の電解セル。
- 前記第1および第2の室に沿った流体流路は、前記入口を通過する結合入口流路として合流する、請求項1に記載の電解セル。
- 前記結合入口流路および前記結合出口流路は前記内側電極を通過する、請求項3に記載の電解セル。
- 前記内側電極は流体の流れに対して多孔性であり、
前記内側電極は中央長手方向セクションおよび第1および第2の端部長手方向セクションを含み、
前記入口流路および前記出口流路は、それぞれ前記第1および第2の長手方向セクションの内部にある容積空間に流体的に結合され、
前記中央長手方向セクションの内部にある容積空間の少なくとも一部分が前記内側電極の長手方向軸に沿った流体の流れに対して閉塞され、前記入口流路および前記出口流路が前記内側電極を通過する、
請求項4に記載の電解セル。 - 前記内側電極の内径空間の中に置かれた中実の内側コアをさらに含み、該内側コアは該内側コアを通過する流体の流れを閉塞する、請求項1に記載の電解セル。
- 前記中実の内側コアは円柱状であって第1および第2の端部を含み、
前記第1および第2の端部の少なくとも1つは、周辺で間隔を取られたスロットおよび介在する脚の集合を含み、
前記流体流路は前記中実の内側コアのスロットの集合を通過する、
請求項6に記載の電解セル。 - 前記イオン交換膜は、前記セルの長手方向軸に沿った長さを有し、該長さは前記内側電極および前記外側電極の長さよりも短い、請求項1に記載の電解セル。
- 前記内側電極および前記外側電極の各々は第1および第2の対向する端部を有し、該端部は前記イオン選択性膜の第1および第2の対向する端部を越えて延び、それによって前記第1および第2の電解室の長手方向対向端部で前記内側および外側電極の間にイオン選択性膜を有しない第3および第4の電解室を形成する、請求項8に記載の電解セル。
- 前記内側電極、前記外側電極、または前記イオン選択性膜の少なくとも1つは円筒状である、請求項1に記載の電解セル。
- 前記入口が形成される第1のエンドキャップと、
前記出口が形成される第2のエンドキャップと、
を含み、
前記第1および第2のエンドキャップは、前記内側電極および外側電極を相互からの所望の軸方向間隔で支持する、請求項1に記載の電解セル。 - (a)入口、出口、同軸の内側電極および外側電極、および前記内側および外側電極の間のギャップの中に置かれたイオン選択性膜を含む電解セルへ液体を通過させることと、ここで前記イオン選択性膜の対向する側に第1および第2の電解反応室が形成され、該第1および第2の室に沿った流体流路は、前記入口を通過する結合入口流路および前記出口を通過する結合出口流路として合流することと、
(b)前記内側電極と前記外側電極との間に付勢電圧を印加することと、
を含む方法。
