或いはオゾン発生反応
3H2O →O3 +6H+ +6e- (2)
が起きる。(1)及び(2)の反応過程で生成した水素イオンは、イオン透過性を有する固体高分子膜を透過し、陰極に達する。陰極では透過してきた水素イオンが電子を受け取る還元反応
2H+ +2e- →H2 (3)
が起き、生成した水素は陰極室内へと拡散していく。電解法によるオゾン発生過程ではこの一連のプロセスが起きている。しかしながら、(1)及び(2)の反応は、上記孔内の固体高分子膜、陽極壁面、電解液(水)の三相が接する界面で最も効率的に起こる。これは、この部分で反応が起きた場合に水素イオンの移動距離が最短となるためである。逆に、上記三相界面から遠い位置、例えば固体高分子膜から1mm以上離れた位置では上記反応は殆ど起こらない。また、厚い導電性ダイヤモンド板を製造するには、成膜のための時間やコストもかかり、必要以上に厚い導電性ダイヤモンド板を陽極として採用するのは好ましくない。そこで、上記導電性ダイヤモンド板の厚さは1.0mm以下(より望ましくは0.8mm以下)とするのが望ましい。
また、上記穿孔が、レーザ加工または放電加工によって施された場合、製造が容易になって製造コストを低減することができる。また、この場合、孔などの形状や配置を設計通りに構成するのが容易になり、電極の特性のバラツキを抑制すると共に歩留まりを向上させることができる。

が起きる。(1)及び(2)の反応過程で生成した水素イオンは、イオン透過性を有する固体高分子膜7を透過し、陰極5に達する。陰極5では透過してきた水素イオンが電子を受け取る還元反応
2H+ +2e- →H2 (3)
が起き、生成した水素は陰極室15内へと拡散していく。しかしながら、(1)及び(2)の反応は、図3に示すように、孔3a内の固体高分子膜7、孔3aの内壁面、陽極室13内の電解液(水)の三相が接する界面で最も効率的に起こる。これは、この部分で反応が起きた場合に水素イオンの移動距離が最短となるためである。また、厚い導電性ダイヤモンド板を製造するには、成膜のための時間やコストもかかり、必要以上に厚い導電性ダイヤモンド板を陽極3として採用するのは好ましくない。そこで、陽極3の厚さは1.0mm以下(より望ましくは0.8mm以下)とするのが望ましい。
[実験例]
続いて、上記各実施の形態の効果を検証するためになされた実験例について説明する。マイクロ波プラズマCVD法により合成した厚さ0.8mm、15mm×50mmの矩形状の自立体型ダイヤモン板に、レーザー加工により孔を穿設することにより、以下のパラメーターを有するダイヤモンド電極を作成した。ここで、孔の配置としては例えば図10の(A),(B),(C),(D)に示す4種類の形状を採用した。

Claims (6)
- 自立体型の導電性ダイヤモンド板に、穿孔を施してなるオゾン生成用の電極であって、
上記孔が複数穿孔され、その孔と孔との外周同士の間隔が0.2〜1.5mmであリ、上記導電性ダイヤモンド板の厚さが0.2〜1.0mmであることを特徴とする電極。 - 上記穿孔された孔の径が0.5〜3.0mmであることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電極。
- 固体高分子膜を挟んで陰極と陽極とを配設してなり、水を電気分解してオゾンを生成するオゾン生成装置であって、
上記陽極として、請求項1または2記載の電極を使用し、その陽極,上記固体高分子膜,及び水の三者が接触し合う三相界面を形成可能に構成されたことを特徴とするオゾン生成装置。 - 上記陽極が上記固体高分子膜よりも小さく構成され、上記陽極の外周に、その陽極,上記固体高分子膜,及び水の三者が接触し合う三相界面を形成可能に構成されたことを特徴とする請求項3記載のオゾン生成装置。
- 固体高分子膜を挟んで陰極と陽極とを配設し、水を電気分解してオゾンを生成するオゾン生成方法であって、
上記陽極として、請求項1または2記載の電極を使用し、その陽極,上記固体高分子膜,及び水の三者が接触し合う三相界面を形成することを特徴とするオゾン生成方法。 - 上記陽極を上記固体高分子膜よりも小さく構成し、上記陽極の外周に、その陽極,上記固体高分子膜,及び水の三者が接触し合う三相界面を形成することを特徴とする請求項5記載のオゾン生成方法。
