Description

次に図４に示す如く、ベアリング６のベアリング開口部７側からボールスタッド２の球頭部４を挿入後、ハウジング１１のハウジング開口部１４内周側に抜け止めリング２２を挿入し、ベアリング６のベアリング開口部７を抜け止めリング２２の曲内面２５に倣って内周側に折曲させるとともに、抜け止めリング２２の鍔部２３をハウジング１１の受端部４４に着座させる。この状態でハウジング１１のカシメ部１５をかしめ加工し、図５に示す如き予備組立体５１を組付ける。この予備組立体５１は、ハウジング１１の内カップ４１の内径がベアリング６の外径よりやや小径に形成されており、また、ベアリング６の肉厚は組み立てられた状態におけるハウジング１１の内カップ４１の内径と球頭部４の外径との径差より大きく形成されている。さらにベアリング６のベアリング開口部７は抜け止めリング２２により内周側に折曲形成されているので、ベアリング６は、図６に示す如く、球頭部４とハウジング１１の内カップ４１及び抜け止めリング２２から圧縮された状態となり、周方向及び内外周面から予圧を受ける。
よって、上記の如きボールジョイント６１は、ハウジング１１の凹部１３がボールスタッド２の球頭部４の中心を通る赤道線よりハウジング小開口部７２側に形成されているので、ベアリング６内周面はボールスタッド２の球頭部４の中心を通る赤道線よりベアリング大開口部６７側がベアリング小開口部６８側よりグリスが多く供給される。
また、上記ボールジョイントで、ハウジングの凹部が球頭部の赤道線よりハウジング開口部側に形成されていると、ベアリングの内周面はベアリング開口側が反ベアリング開口側よりもグリスが多く供給されて潤滑性が良くなるので、引っ張り方向に荷重がかかる用途で使用されるボールジョイントにおいてより有効である。
