- 【特許請求の範囲】 1. 硫黄を含有する燃料によって作動する内燃機関からの排気ガスを処理す る方法であって、酸化セリウム及び酸化ジルコニウムをセリウム/ジルコニウム 原子割合少なくとも1でベースにしかつイットリウム、ランタン及びプラセオジ ム酸化物から選ぶ少なくとも一種の酸化物をベースにし及び900℃において6 時間か焼した後に比表面積少なくとも35m2/gを示す組成物を触媒として使 用することを特徴とする方法。 2. 900℃において6時間か焼した後に、比表面積少なくとも40m2/ g、一層特には少なくとも45m2/gを示す組成物を使用することを特徴とす る請求項1の方法。 3. 1000℃において6時間か焼した後に、比表面積少なくとも14m2 /g、一層特には少なくとも20m2/g、なお一層特には少なくとも30m2/ gを示す組成物を使用することを特徴とする請求項1又は2の方法。 4. 硫黄少なくとも30ppm、一層特には少なくとも50ppm、なお一 層特には少なくとも200ppmを含有する燃料によって作動する内燃機関から の排気ガスの処理を実施することを特徴とする先の請求項の一の方法。 5. CexZryMzO2式(式中、Mは、イットリウム、ランタン及びプラセ オジムを含む群から選ぶ少なくとも一種の元素を表し、zは0〜0.3、一層特 には0.02〜0.2であり、x/y比は、1〜19、一層特には1〜9、なお 一層特には1.5〜4であり、0の外の限界の値を含み、x,y及びzは、x+ y+z=1なる関係によってつながれる)の組成物を使用することを特徴とする 先の請求項の一の方法。 6. 固溶体の形態で存在する組成物を使用することを特徴とする先の請求項 の一の方法。 7. 硫黄を含有する燃料によって作動する内燃機関からの排気ガスを処理す るための触媒系であって、請求項1〜6の一の方法において使用するタイプの組 成物を含むことを特徴とする触媒系。 8. 基材上のコーティングで構成され、該コーティングは、上述した組成物 を含むことを特徴とする請求項7の触媒系。
