982,322. Furnace roofs. KELLAR OFENBAU G.m.b.H. June 13, 1961 [July 9, 1960], No. 21247/61. Heading F4B. The roof 3 of an industrial furnace made of blocks or as a monolithic slab of fireclay or the like has a flat underside, an arched upper side, and rounded ends engaging similarly shaped skewbacks 5 resiliently held by buckstays joined by upper tie-rods 6 with conventional nuts 8 and springs 7. The forces applied by the skew backs are said to be applied in a horizontal plane about one-third of the way up the vertical median plane of the roof. The radius of curvature of different sections of the ends of the roof may be varied, Fig. 4 (not shown).
