987,408. Furnace roofs. J. W. LUDOWICI. June 12, 1961 [June. 10, 1960], No. 21201/61. Heading F4B. A furnace arched roof 1 is supported independently of the side walls 2 by disposing the abutments 3 in a separate external support structure spaced laterally from said side walls. The invention may be applied to a roof of part-spherical form supported at four corners in a rigid steel framework, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). A tongue and groove seal may be formed between the roof and the walls, Fig. 4 (not shown).
