Abstract

947,698. Printing plate clamping means. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. March 24, 1961 [March 26, 1960], No. 10973/61. Heading B6C. A printing plate 3 is clamped to a printing cylinder 1 through the engagement of each end between a substantially crescent-shaped rail 4 or 5, disposed in a bore 6 adjacent the peripheral surface of the cylinder, and a pair of axially aligned rollers 8 located between the rails. The rails are turnable in the bore, such that the edges 9, 10 are moved relative to each other, by the rollers 8 each of which is eccentrically mounted on a shaft 13 movable radially of the cylinder by hydraulically or pneumatically operated piston and cylinder means 15, 16. Plate-gripping movement of the rollers inwardlY of the cylinder is opposed by spring-loaded levers 11. To prevent unintentional plate release should the pressure medium fail each piston and cylinder may be arranged adjacent the surface of the cylinder diametrically opposite the associated rails, so that the centrifugal force acting on the piston always exerts a clamping effect on the rails whilst the cylinder is rotating. The cylinder shown is arranged to mount two printing plates and accordingly incorporates two bores, each of which houses associated clamping rails &c. and is angularly offset relative to the other around the periphery of the cylinder. The rollers 8 may be moved by a mechanical linkage instead of the piston and cylinder means shown.
