Abstract
861,169. Printing surfaces. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK FRANKENTHAL ALBERT & CIE A.G. June 16, 1959 [July 7, 1958], No. 20536/59. Class 100(2) A device for clamping curved stereotype plates on a printing cylinder comprises clamps for the straight edges of the plates which are axially fixed but radially movable on actuation of pushrods, in turn actuated by the means for clamping the curved edges of the plate. The curved edges of the plates 6 are secured by bevelled ring halves 2 at the ends of the cylinder 1, intermediate bevel pieces being provided along the length of the cylinder. Split outer rings 4 clamp the ring halves 2 against the plates 6 when an eccentric lock 3 is turned allowing compression springs 5 to operate. The cylinder has axial recesses into which clamping rails 9 are fitted by screws 10. The rails 9 are provided with slots into which push rods 11, 12 are fitted. The rods 11, 12 are connected by adjusting screws 14 and are fixed to the ring halves 2 by screws 13. Bevel teeth 15 are milled into the rods 11, 12 which mesh with helical gearing 18 provided on the clamping jaw carriers 17 for the straight edges of the plates. The carriers 17 are mounted in recesses 16 in the rails 9. The carrier 17 has a bore into which fits a screw 20, screwed into a clamping jaw 21, mounted in the carrier. Springs 22 are arranged between the head of the screw 20 and the jaw carrier 17. A stop plate 23, having an oblong hole 24 into which the eccentric head of a screw 25 engages, is guided in a recess in the carrier 17 and serves for adjusting the plate 6 in a circumferential direction. In operation, inward movement of the rods 11, 12, caused by inward movement of the rings 4 and clamps 2, causes the jaws 21, by reason of gearing 15, 18, to move radially inwards and grip the straight edges of the plate 6. Similarly release is effected by outward movement of the rings 4.
