Abstract

1280193 Offset rotary printing presses MILLER PRINTING MACHINERY CO 5 Nov 1969 [19 Nov 1968] 54234/69 Heading B6C A web-fed offset rotary perfecting press which will produce printed products of different lengths depending upon the diameter of the plate (24, 28,) and blanket (32, 36) cylinders comprises a main frame carrying the plate cylinder and an auxiliary frame 20, 22, Fig. 1, slidable relative to the main frame which carries the blanket cylinder. Each cylinder comprises a standard size cylindrical core 40, Fig. 11, having means in a longitudinal grip to clamp around the core annular members 58 of different thickness to thereby alter the diameter of the cylinder. Each auxiliary frame may be clamped in one of seven positions so providing means for holding a blanket cylinder having a diameter chosen from one of seven predetermined sizes. The frames are moved by screw means 184, 190, and the driving means for the press is such that the gear trains, Fig. 5, linking the cylinders are easily interengageable whatever the diameter of the particular cylinder being used. The blanket cylinders are mounted in the auxiliary frames in eccentric bearings.
