Abstract

997,806. Printing apparatus. MILLER PRINTING MACHINERY CO. May 11, 1964 [May 27, 1963], No. 19599/64. Heading B6C. In a sheet-fed rotary offset press which has two printing couples 3, 5 and 9, 10, Fig. 1, and may be used for either perfecting or twocolour printing-selection being effected by whether the grippers on a transfer cylinder 8 clamp the leading or trailing edge of the sheet passing from a transfer cylinder 7-the sheetreceiving surfaces of cylinders 6 and 9, which contact the sheet directly it has been printed by the first and second couples, respectively, are chromed and have a predetermined degree of roughness to prevent set-off. Each cylinder may have a chromium plating deposited directly on the base metal thereof or an aluminium sheet so plated may be wrapped therearound. Transfer cylinder 6 comprises a series of parallel spaced partial discs arranged on a shaft with a chromium plate aluminium sheet wrapped around to transform the cylinder into one of continuous curved surface. The impression cylinder 9, on the other hand, is a hollow cylinder having mechanism located in a longitudinal gap to stretch and clamp a chromium plated aluminium sheet therearound.
