Abstract

In a sheet-fed rotary offset multi-colour press comprising two units which may print in two colours on one side of a sheet or in single colours on both sides of a sheet the first impression cylinder 1, Fig. 1, is provided with gear means whereby the angular position of the feed roller 8 and the impression cylinder 1 may be altered relative to the sheet transfer cylinder 3 and the second impression cylinder 4 and so on in order to adapt the machine to print on sheets of different lengths. As shown in Fig. 2, the impression cylinder mounts a gear-wheel 6, which is adjustable radially relative to the shaft of the cylinder but is rotatably and axially fixed thereto, and a gear-wheel 7 which is rotatable relative to the gear-wheel 6. The gear-wheel 6 is connected to the gear-wheel of the feed roller 8 whilst the gear-wheel 7 is connected to the gear-wheel train 11 and so on associated with the cylinders succeeding the impression cylinder 1. When the gearwheel 7, which is attached to the gear-wheel 6 by a ring-clamp arrangement, is released, the intermediate cylinder 1 and feed roller 8 may be rotated relative to the cylinder 3 by manual means, an auxiliary drive or the machine drive. The gear-wheels 6 and 7 are geared to a pointer and scale arrangement 19, 20 so that the relative angular displacement of the cylinders 1 and 3 is readily discernible.
