Abstract

952,307. Printing-apparatus. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK KOENIG & BAUER A.G. Jan. 21, 1963 [April 13, 1962], No. 2578/63. Heading B6C. A multi-colour sheet-fed rotary printing machine comprises two printing units 2 and 4. having impression cylinders 13, 14 and pairs of plate cylinders 15, 16 and 17, 18 respectively and is constructed so that the distance between the cylinders 15, 16 and the unit 4 is the same as that between the cylinders 17, 18 and a delivery pile 6 and is just large enough either for a two-colour inking unit 19, 20 in its operative position, or, when the unit is withdrawn, or to provide a transverse passage 35 through the machine to provide access to the impression and plate cylinders. The sheets are fed to the unit 2 by swinging grippers 30 and are transferred between the units and from unit 4 to the pile 6 by gripper chains 3, 5. Sprayers 7 dust the printed sheets to prevent set-off. A plate 31 provides additional access to the impression cylinder 13. Inking.-Frames 27 and 28 provide oblique slide tracks 25 and 26 up which the inking units 19 and 20 are withdrawn to provide access to the boarded footway 36 of the passage 35. The printing cylinders are of the same diameter as the impression cylinders and the forme-inking rollers 38 have a circumference which exceeds the maximum printing length. A mechanism 44 including a cam 45 is provided to trip the inking units by a few millimetres and to move both plate cylinders of each unit away from the fixed impression cylinder. The embodiment of Fig. 2, not shown, includes only one two-colour printing unit. Machine drive.-The main drive of each unit is transmitted through worm gear, Fig. 2 not shown, directly to the shafts of the chain delivery drums and the worms are connected by a longitudinal shaft coupled to the main driving motor.
