Abstract

1,230,020. Rotary printing presses. W. H. GRANGER. 26 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 30464/68. Heading B6C. In a rotary relief press comprising couples 11a and 11b, Fig. 1, for printing in sequence on both sides of a web 12, each couple comprises impression and plate cylinders 17 and 16, forme roller 15 and ductor roller 14, all drivingly connected through interconnected gear-wheels and the rubber covered forme roller is readily removable on slides for re-grinding and reconditioning. The ductor roller 14, Fig. 5, and the corressponding fountain 36, Fig. 7, are sectional, each section supplying a different coloured ink to the plates 16a on the plate cylinder 16 via the forme roller 15. The ductor roller is covered with small pockets 25 which may be produced by etching. The blade structure 60 is movable toward and away from the roller 14 whilst the multi-sectional fountain 36 is movable in a vertical direction. The various inks in the fountain are supplied and withdrawn through pipes 41, 41a and 42, whilst the ductor. blade structure 60 has guide fins dependant from its underside in order that ink removed by the structure from the roller 14 may be returned to the fountain. In order to maintain the angular velocity of the roller 15 at a constant value, the drive to the roller is transmitted through a clutch arrangement.
