Abstract

1,163,977. Multi-colour rotary press; registration. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURGNURNBERG A.G. 20 Feb., 1967 [3 March, 1966], No. 8038/67. Heading B6C. A multi-colour sheet-fed rotary press comprising a series of printing couples is characterized by an intermeshing gear-wheel drive to the printing cylinders and the transfer cylinders wherein each gear-wheel has a toothed segment, the segments on adjacent gear-wheels being in mesh during sheet transfer, and alternate gearwheels being provided with adjustable resilient segments so that the printing cylinders are maintained in register; the resilient segments eliminate play between the teeth and prevent backlash, vibration, &c. Fig. 1 illustrates a press in which printing cylinders 1, 10 and transfer cylinders 6, 7, 8 carry spur gears 2, 9, 3, 4, 5, respectively. Toothed segments 11-15 mounted on the side faces of respective gearwheels are in mesh peripherally only during sheet transfer (see gears 2, 3 in Fig. 1). Segments 11, 12, 13, preferably of steel, are rigidly mounted on their respective gear-wheels 2, 4, 9, whereas segments 14 and 15, preferably of plastics material, are mounted on their gearwheels 3, 5 for movement towards and away from stop-screw 16 against a spring force exerted by spring 18 mounted between screw 16 and adjustable stop-screw 17.
