Abstract

1329322 Printing apparatus HARRIS-INTERTYPE CORP 3 Nov 1971 51045/71 Heading B6C In a rotary offset perfecting press each plate cylinder 16, 18 is cireumferentially adjusted relative to its associated blanket cylinder 12, 14 by a motor driven harmonic drive unit 36, 38. Each unit comprises a cylindrical body member 46, Fig. 2, driven from the blanket cylinder through interengaging gear teeth 28 and 50 which in turn drives the plate cylinder via internal teeth 62, Fig. 5, and a deformable member 64 carrying external teeth 66-which mesh with the teeth 62-and is fixedly attached to the end of the plate cylinder shaft 63. The points of engagement of the teeth 62 and 66 are varied by a motor driven elliptical member 68 which variation in turn determines the relative positions of the associated cylinder pair. Fig. 3 shows a pneumatically actuated device which removes the blanket cylinders from the associated plate cylinders and from each other by rotation of eccentric bearings in which the blanket cylinders are supported.
