Abstract

1348021 Rotary web-fed offset printing machine MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURGNURNBERG AG 19 May 1971 [20 May 1970] 15882/71 Heading B6C A rotary offset printing machine comprises plate cylinders 12 and 13, blanket cylinders 10 and 11 and an impression cylinder 14. The cylinders 10, 11 and 14 are mounted in eccentric bearings such that operation of pistons 16, 17 and 18 causes the press to be converted from a two colour set-up, Fig. 1, to a perfecting set-up, Fig. 2. The cylinders are driven from two transmission lines employing interengaging gears, each line having a clutch such that when the clutch in one line is engaged the offset cylinders are arranged to be driven in the same direction (for the two colour set-up) and when the other clutch is engaged the offset cylinders are arranged to be driven in opposite directions (for the perfecting set-up). The clutches may be electromagnetically operated and each comprise two axially interengaging toothed discs. The teeth may be arranged to permit only one engagement position, thus ensuring registration of the cylinders. Two of the above-described units may be linked to provide a press adapted for three colours and one colour perfecting (Fig. 5), four colours (Fig. 6), and two colours and two colour perfecting (Figs. 7 and 8).
