The invention provides an offset printing press which permits single colour printing simultaneously on both sides of a web or multicolour printing on one side only. The particular embodiment comprises an offset press for the multicolour and perfected printing of webs which incorporates plate cylinders 11, 11a, damping trains 15-17, 20-22 and 15a-17a, inking trains 13 and 13a, blanket cylinders 31 and 32 and an impression cylinder 33. Through hydraulically operated lever and linkage mechanism incorporating a toggle linkage each blanket cylinder may be moved into one of three positions. In the first, Fig. 1a (not shown), the cylinders are in the perfecting position of Fig. 1. In the second, the cylinders, Fig. 2a (not shown), have been swung by rotation of eccentric sleeves 40, 40a into a throw-off position in which they neither touch the plate cylinders nor one another. In the third Fig. 3a, (not shown), the blanket cylinders simultaneously co-operate with the impression cylinder 33 to produce multicolour printing on the same side of the web 35. If it is desired to add a further colour to this web an additioanl offset printing unit may be provided to co-operate with the cylinder 33. For reversing the direction of rotation of the cylinders 11 and 31 in order to change over from perfecting to multicolour printing, the gear drive to the press incorporates gear-wheels arranged in such a manner that axial displacement of two of them, 31g and 31g-1, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), will effect the necessary reversal. The toggle linkage in the lever and linkage mechanism swinging the blanket cylinders ensures that the cylinders are locked in their third position i.e. for multicolour printing whilst locking of the cylinders in their first position is effected through a dead centre position of the lever and linkage mechanism itself.
