Abstract

1,065,511. Offset printing presses. ROLAND OFFSETMASCHINENFABRIK FABER & SCHLEICHER A.G. Feb. 17, 1965 [April 2, 1964], No. 6768/65. Heading B6C. The two plate cylinders 6, 7 and the two blanket cylinders 9, 10 of a four-cylinder offset perfecting press are combined in a detachable sub-assembly so that plate cylinders of different diameters may be readily fitted to the press together with the appropriate blanket cylinders. Each unit comprises side walls 4, 5 between which are mounted the cylinders and rod-andlink motions 53, 11 and 54, 57, 56 and 55, Fig. 5, by which the blanket cylinders are adjusted relative to each other and their respective plate cylinders. The blanket cylinders 9 and 10 are supported in eccentric bearings 12 such that rotation of the bearings varies the spacing between each cylinder and its associated plate cylinder. Each bearing may be rotated for this purpose by a rod-and-link mechanism 53, 11, rotation of a nut member 52, Fig. 5, effecting axial movement of the rod 11. Rotation of an axle 55, Fig. 5, causes the blanket cylinders to move relative to each other whilst contact pressure between the cylinders is adjusted by means of a turnbuckle 58. The sub-assembly is clamped to the press framework 1, 2, 3 by suitable bolts through the holes 15, 16 in the walls 4, 5. The drive to the unit is effected from the press drive through worm gearing 37, 38, Fig. 4, a slidable coupling member 36, actuated by a pivoted member 35, being provided to engage a suitably shaped end 32 of the trunnion 7a of the plate cylinder 7. Motion to the other cylinders is effected by gearing carried by the sub-assembly. The press incorporates dampening mechanisms 21 and inking mechanisms 24 each of the latter being assembled as a unit pivotable about an axis 23 and controlled by hydraulic cylinders 22.
