Abstract

973,387. Machine tool details. K. NAGAMORI. May 14, 1963, No. 18965/63. Heading B3B. A quick acting vice comprises a slidable jaw 2 movable backwards and forwards in relation to a stationary jaw 1, a pair of half nuts 7 1 , 7 2 , mounted on the stationary part, a vice screw 3 provided with a key groove 18, a cam 8 located between the pair of half nuts and a freewheel mechanism arranged between the vice screw and cam. The half nuts 7 1 , 7 2 are connected together by bolts 11 carrying coil springs 12 which urge the nut members into closed position on the screw 3. A boss 13 is slidably inserted in the cam 8, the boss having on its inner surface a key 17 which slidably fits a groove 18 in the vice screw 3 to enable the boss to turn with the vice screw while the latter moves forward in relation to the boss. A spring 15 attached to the boss, has at one end a pin 14 which engages with a catch 16 on the cam so that on turning the screw spindle in the direction A4 the cam 8 is also turned but on rotation of the spindle in the opposite direction the catch prevents rotation of the cam.
