862,312. Wrenches. NORDGREN, S. N. Oct. 15, 1958, No. 32896/58. Class 61. A wrench comprises a head 1 with a fixed jaw 2 and a tongue 6 projecting into a groove 7 in the plane of rotation of a handle 4 which is pivoted to the head, also an adjustable jaw 3 slidably mounted in the head to that on rotating the handle 4 in one direction (A of Fig. 2) the jaws grip workpiece 24 and on rotating it in the other (B of Fig. 3) they slip round it. The jaw 3 is adjustable by a worm 15 which is free to slide on its pivot against a spring 19 within the limits of a slot 14 in the head 1. A ferrule 17 with anti-rotation lugs 18 on either side of the rear of the opening 14 is engaged by a tongue 23 on the handle 4 to retain the jaw 3 at the clamping position when the handle is turned in the direction A, Fig. 2, but is released in the direction B, Fig. 3. The handle is normally held as in the primer position with its end faces 9 and 10 against similar stop-faces on the head 1 by a spring 21 in a triangular recess in the tongue 6. The tool can be locked clamped by a catch 31 on the handle which turns a half round stud 25 in a shaped slot 28 in the tongue 6.
